Really hope the lad does well - respect him for taking the plunge of moving abroad.

The way he’s gone about the move is a bit unsavoury but I think we are equally to blame in this.

We’ve also seemingly got a very decent deal considering the circumstances. As long as he is adequately replaced I don’t have any real negativity towards him.

That's a very mature way to look at it.

Personally, I hope he gets septic piles.

I fail to see how the club is equally to blame. If we’d have given him an improved contract after last season, people would be up in arms, rightly so. He has a good season now, just the one mind and we offered what they had requested

Good business, hopefully the lad does well.

I have a feeling the move to a French league (which is not renound for high scoring games) might be a step to far for him at the moment.

Good luck to the lad, you can’t knock ambition and wanting to better yourself financially and professionally
how will his ambition and professionalism be better in French reserve team ? It's all about the money nowt else

Save your negativity for his replacement!

I’m normally straight down the line in situations like this, don’t want to play for us, there is the door don’t let it hit you on the bum on the way out.
But for some reason I feel a bit sorry for Maja, maybe I’m just going soft in me old age
Nah, you’re on holiday in a beautiful location, gorgeous weather. That’s the feel good factor kicking in. You’ll be ok when you get home

Don’t agree with that one bit tbh mate. Clubs should always look to tie down young talent. We have clearly always rated him highly.

We can’t just throw money around, he was behind Asoro in the potential stakes. Lets not forget it is a fine balance, we give him an improved contract last season and it didn’t turn out right, he gets shipped out we have to pay the remainder of his contract. Also if you remember, in pre season 2017 he needed knee surgery

Bordeaux manager Eric Bedouet hints Josh Maja may not be ready for first team football
Maja's £3.5million move from Sunderland to Bordeaux is expected to be confirmed today after he completed his medical on Thursday

Oh dear josh, possible two medals here or a goosed up move to France, agent screwing him over here like

We offered him and Asoro improved contracts last season, they choose to turn them down.

I disagree. The club could have handed him an extension at the end of last season. If you think he is worth keeping you have to pay it. It’s the risk you take

He played 17 games last season, not sure how many from the bench. I don’t think clubs in our position are likely to offer improved contracts until the last year with younger players, especially when he hadn’t done anything out of the ordinary.
