No matter what happens come the end of the season those 2 contracts will have held the club back more than anything else. Should have told both of them not to come in and hopefully sickened the fuckers off. It's being like watching a horse run with an anvil strapped to each side of its saddle. The owners, JR and the staff need medals the size of dust bin lids for getting us where we are. Just hope Maja going doesn't knock the lads to much off stride and any new signings can fit in quickly.
Couldn't agree more. The relationship between GL and Cattermole could be interesting.....

We of course, never wanted to keep him, so it's not quite the same. We would have snapped the hands off any club who wanted him.

Better described as: He didn't do a Kone or N'Dong.
If it's true that he packed his bags and said he would never play for Sunderland again then he effectively went on strike to force a move.

The only difference with the N'dong and Bodgie situation was nee fucker wanted them.

Don’t know why people are taking it to heart. Good luck to the lad. Shows we help players progress and let them move on. Players will trust us to help them develop

So u wudnt move job if your wages got tripled ?? Reetio.
We offered him what he wanted in the first place, so that argument is just shite.

He's moving to the top flight of France, it's also a f***ing brilliant city with great weather. It's also chance to also develop his technique in a country that produces a lot more top and better players than we do over here.
Doesn't really take that much thinking about or explaining
I doubt he had this option from the point at which we offered him the contract he said he wanted.

So he lied to us, and told his agent to hawk him around, even though he said he'd sign here.

If Bordeaux came in at the end of the season, after he signed here, some fans would be upset, but they would have wished him well.

Its the snake like way he's gone about it, and leaving us up shit creek halfway through the season, that has fans pissed off

The whole situation is a mess. The player, the agent, the owner and the club come out of this looking bad.
This

Yeah. Wasn't any word from the camp they were trying to sort the new deal out though. We know they tried in the summer but pre that there's little to go off.

Was that not the summer?
Think @Howard the Duck is right, before last season ended.

I’d need a week or three to discuss it with my family. Mam, Dad (and others) I can stay where I’m happy for a little bit more money but my agent (who looks after my best interests) has said he could get me a move to a top German team where all the other best young English players are plying their trade. Ok son, go where your agent has advised.
And after listening to all that advice the daft fucker ends up in France instead of Germany

Will his wages be tripled, compared to what we have offered him? He's scoring a lot of goals, but in League 1. I don't think most people are so upset at him leaving, but the gutless and spineless way that he has gone about it. All this bollox about him telling JR and SD that he wants to stay and then as the OP's son, called him, like a snake he slithers off into the sunrise:neutral:
If we offered him seven grand, there is no chance of French club will be paying him 21 grand. Did some of the French players we have signed recently not increase their salary by about seven times coming to Sunderland, and they were established players in the French league already.

Wish the lad all the best myself.

Done very little to warrant the shite he’s getting already and he’s not even gone yet.

The old regime wasn’t arsed about him, why would he be arsed now?

Going to a better league where he can make an impact and get noticed

Best of luck I say.
Look at the conduct of Henderson and pickford when we sold them. It was done properly, and we wished them well.

Its the way he's gone about it, simple as that

Hope he comes out & explains his descion
He is moving from a team he has been with for 2 years, who play in the 3rd level, who may or not get promoted. To a team who play in the top level, for more money who are a bigger name in world football for more money.
It's an easy decision to make.

I'm sorry if I'm being a massive cynic and maybe this is because the news is still raw...

...but sell on clause be damned, I hope the kid ends up an utter f***ing failure.
Literally hope his career nose dives. Don’t care what anyone else thinks.
