I think Stewart Donald has been fantastic for us since he came and is the perfect guy to take this club forward

• Got the place buzzing again
• Very good appointment in Ross
• Got the fans back on side
• Vey good salesman I.e getting big attendances

But surely people can see he’s made a mistake with the young players likes of maja, embleton,Hume, stryjek letting there contracts run this close to been up is a mistake hopefully this is a big learning curve for him

Massively agree - personally I think the clubs handling of this has been shocking. They should have all been tied up months ago.

Worrying that there isn't any update, and whenever there is Donald gives the same 'we've made them good offers' line - which so far has meant its verging on derisory.

The mistake was the idiots running the club before them, not putting clauses in to protect the club from losing players for nothing. I’m fairly sure it won’t happen in future

I agree. Would have expected Stryjek and Hume at least signed by now

You are moaning about the ethics of agents
I think most dislike the ethics of agents it it still doesn't mean I need to deal with it or get over anything.
Are you waiting for me to post, just you seemed to jump very quickly on that post. Which was quite innocuous to be fair.

Agree with you there aswell mate letting them get in the last 18months was a mistake I fink asoro will come good aswell in a season or 2 and we lost him on the cheap

But I do think 6 months was enough time to sort the deals out or maybe I’m expecting to much

100% agreed, this is all I have been saying all along and have got mountains of stick for it

I really don't know how anyone can disagree with this, its not coincidence that nearly all our young players haven't signed new deals, strikes of trying to be too clever for his own good.
What makes you think the players would have signed contracts in the summer? Their stance then would likely be the same as now, I have a year left, I’ll let it run down.

Because at the beginning of the season there stock was low

Maja was a striker who looked out of place in the championship but now is second top striker in the league 1

Hume was no where near starter then up till he got injured looked like he had made left back he’s own

Embleton very much on the fringes of the team and I did expect him kick on from the start of the season and I thought he would have been the hardest to tie down

Stryjek is just a young player then done very well at Eastleigh on loan yeah I know lower leagues but still people might have noticed him

I would put money on if them 4 players got offered good contracts in August they would have signed

I think the agents of most of them will have told them not to. They were academy players for a premier league team not long ago, they’ll have plenty offers and know it so why not wait.

So naive like, we havent done very well in these negotiations, fairy clear like

Would you have offered Maja a good contract in August based upon his championship form or waited to see how he was handling league 1?

This is part of the problem though, not being proactive

You wait till a player bangs in 15 goals then offer him a deal, not really good management that is it

Going off the fact we only had him and Wyke as owa strikers and the fact he was rated very highly by the club and the fact he was on a reported £600 a week I would have went in with a strong offer then by the end of September when he had 7 in 9 I would have made him a offer he couldn’t refuse

Mate have a look at how many premier league academy players end up at lower league or even non league means very little Ryan noble and Rees greenwood prefect example both highly thought off premier league academy players both doing nothing now

Embleton had a very good tournament in the summer, you’d imagine he’d be on some teams radar at that point. We should still see a 20% sell on clause for all these lads that go elsewhere though.

The fact you are even expecting some of these players to go somewhere else is so sad and would be a complete lack of management by the owners

Hopefully its not true, amazed about how defeatist you are, amazed.

There's not an agent going (not one working anyway) who would rush to agree to a contract when a player's career seems to be moving on to another level. Often the club will be the ones stalling till they see how a season pans out. They don't always know months in advance who they want to keep. And as another poster said if Maja had played a lot and not scored yet had been offered a new contract months ago people on here would be playing war. More likely his agent wouldn't be in any hurry to sign while he's scoring regularly, he had nothing to lose by doing that.

Presumably this was because of the rules on restraint of trade.
