You got her on a bet mate?

I've not seen much of the Sydney event as I've been following the AO qualifiers more this week (and Hobart), but I have been keeping an eye on the results and yeah, she is getting some impressive scores.

Her initial path isn't too bad, but due to meet Sabalenka in R4 (if it goes with ranking) and that should be a good one, they've exchanged wins recently.
Not got anything on yet might put a few accumulators on later

Yeah, I'll be doing a few acca's in the early rounds where there's loads of matches to pick and choose from. Time difference isn't ideal, but I'm off from Tuesday to the following Tuesday so I'll be having a lot of late ones.

I'm normally up until 3anyway, you do any outright bets or outright accumulators for tournaments

Normally just do the 4/5 match acca's, but I have put 3 outright bets on this one from free bets. I backed Stephens ages ago, just after the WTA Finals @22/1, but don't really fancy her chances. I also backed Nadal at 11/2 before he pulled out of Brisbane and that exhibition, so not confident in that either .

After the draw, I put a few quid on Kerber as she has generally been playing well (I know she lost to Petra this week) and had a fairly kind draw and I think she has a great chance. Novak will likely win the men's, but there's no value in that.

Cillic was decent odds as outside bet the other day

Not sure whether to watch one of the matches starting at midnight or get up around 5ish and catch a match before work. I'll only get one set max of the Murray match if it is not before 7am, although hopefully that's not all that's required :(

I'll be doing the former on the first day. Watch the Brits in the first match on and go to bed as soon as the final one has finished. I'll be sorting everything out for work the night before and getting up as late as possible - shower, quick bite to eat, then away and hopefully survive on less than 5 hours kip .

I am off for a week from Tuesday, so not sure if I'll watch most of it live and sleep through the day or record and watch it all in the morning the next day.

Hoping to find streams or I'm stuck with whatever is on eurosport I haven't got eurosport player

It's on both Eurosport channels through the night, so the most appealing matches in general will be shown. Mainly the big show cards and those involving Brits. Think I read that Eurosport 1 would be starting with Sharapova vs Dart which wouldn't be a surprise as it ticks both of those boxes.

It wi be on William Hill I bet but its frustrating you have to zoom right in because the picture isn't in sync with the scorecard.

I'll have mentioned this before, but I always find Bet365's streaming to be the best as they have a separate streaming window and I've never noticed any problems with the scorecard. You don't even need to have had a bet, just a funded account, so I'd definitely consider setting one of those up if you haven't got one already. Decent enough quality and you can make it full screen. I'll test William Hill streams on a Challenger event or something tomorrow to compare them, but the way you're describing, it doesn't sound great.

Assuming Andy starts his match, when was the last time there were 8 Brits in the first round of a slam, outside of Wimbledon?

Was just thinking about this. In recent tournaments it's been like 4 or 5 (sometimes less), but just saw a tweet before from British Tennis that 8 is the most at the Australian Open since 1988. I'm hopeful of at least 2 going through:

  • Murray - not much chance unfortunately given recent circumstances
  • Edmund - one of the worst draws he could have had, he's actually the underdog despite his high seeding
  • Norrie - prob 50/50, beat Fritz last week but the American is higher ranked
  • Evans - favourable 1st round draw, most chance of progressing out of any of them IMO, but probably Federer next, so unlikely to have an extended run
  • Konta - prob 50/50 - lost to her opponent a couple of weeks ago, similar current ranking, opponent will have extra crowd support
  • Boulter - not beyond her, Makarova hasn't been active, hasn't played this year and no wins since August
  • Watson - unlikely
  • Dart - unlikely, but not beyond her as it's not going to be a peak Sharapova

I'll predict Evans, Boulter and one other (from Norrie, Edmund, Konta)

Do you know which Makarova it is? I'm assuming it's the older one. There's also a young Ekaterina Makarova coming through now.

It's the older one, the good doubles player who beat Watson at the last US Open (only had one win since then). Yeah, I noticed the other Makarova, think she's been in recent ITF draws with some of the young Brit's recently. Hopefully the older one will be long gone by the time the other ones properly comes through (assuming she does).

It'll be interesting when Wang Xinyu and Wang Xiyu enter the top 100.

Confusing times ahead. Joao Souza and Joao Sousa used to be a confusing one when placing a bet but I haven't seen much of Souza recently.

Just had a quick check, she's 23 next month and has beaten 5 lower ranked / unranked young Brits since mid October. There's also another one who is just 17  - perhaps that's the one you were thinking of, I wasn't aware of that. Imagine 3 with the same name
