I'm basing it on what I've seen this season, against us for instance, and a mate of mine who's a Gillingham fan. He's an absolute handful, particularly from set pieces, of which we've been absolutely shocking in the league all season, considering the amount of corners we get in a game. An Andy Carroll type who on his day is unplayable, in this league. Plus he's a massive help in coming back and defending set pieces. He's scored 31 goals in 63 games. Him, Grigg and Wyke would be ideal in getting us promoted.
Like I say that's my opinion, I know yours so not getting in an argument about it.

I started a thread about him at start of season and got shot down. He was a handful v us down there and tho he hadn't matched last seasons goal exploits, he'd be a real threat on set pieces and, IF our wingers decided to test the byeline and get crosses over.
And, hes out of contract in June so we'd get him for under half a mill.

the thing that concerns me is his whole career has been shote until this season and last and he isnt getting younger...what is it at gillingham that has made him do so well..and do we do it at sunderland?

Missed some clear cut chances against us as well, mind.

I wouldn’t be averse to him signing for a good price but if Maja was to leave and he came in, I’d be disappointed. Maja has that bit of class, shown by his different type of finishes and I’d like us to get someone similar.

I would like to see us using our clout and trying to sign our one rivals goal threat. Similar to Dalglish at Blackburn in the early nineties, Blackburn needed a push into the top spots and playoffs. Swindon had Duncan Shearer banging them in all over pushing them hard for the promotion. Blackburn bought him then hardly played him and the threat from Swindon faded without his goals. Shearer never made the prem but Blackburn went up via playoffs then won title.

Always thought it was a clever way of derailing your rival :)

mcgeady honeyman gooch catts maja (if he stays) matthews for sure...
Not one impressed last season on a consistent basis.
There'd be loads of squad reshaping to do IMHO and mid table at best is where we'd end up IF we go up.

Celtic do that all the time in Scotland, buy your rivals best players then don’t play them

I see what you're saying but at the end of the day, he's scored one less goal than Maja in a worse team.

Catts was abject last season. He couldn't keep up with play most of the time while players literally walked past him. There's been nothing to suggest that he's made any sort of miracle recovery physically this season. He's so immobile and slow these days. A pale shadow of his former self.

Don’t disagree but it’s going further away from how Ross likes to play

I see eave as a bottom half championship player at best mind

Looks better than Wyke though
