So he was telling Ross yesterday he agrees and today... the fans will not like Maja s stance no matter what the spin. That is poor form by anyones standard even a footballer.

So, now that the story is unfolding and it's quite clear from the horses mouth (SD) that it's not a case of 'if the club sells Maja now it's because a few extra quid is more important than keeping your most important player when challenging for promotion' (copyright @samaistonsrightfoot ), how much should he be sold for in this window under the present circumstance ?
What price would allow JR to find a regular goal scorer at league one level, an attacking midfielder and an extra centre back.
I say £4 million.
Asoro went for 2.2m so that's yer benchmark

For now, I’m prepared to give the kid the benefit of the doubt. All I’ve seen is him give 100% and he looks like he’s enjoying himself

Agents are selfish bastards, but selfish bastards that put huge pressure on impressionable young lads who have never been in this kind of situation before.

I remain with some hope that his relationship with Jack Ross is one that will win the day and sway him in the right direction

Not a chance. He could have stopped agent, but didnt.....

4 million for a player with 6 months on his deal in league 1 who’s owner has now made it public knowledge he won’t be signing a new deal?

Tbf, I wasn't overly impressed with him last season in Championship. One goal, thanks to a lovely pass from Matthews. Other than that, I remember nothing about him, except I was always stuck with a feeling he didn't quite cut it and he was not the answer to our striker needs. I'm not convinced he's got what it takes to score more than 5-10 goals above League One. He could prove me wrong.

But all in all, as long as we get promoted, I couldn't really be bothered if he doesn't wear red and white next season.

Six months ago Maja had one senior career goal to his name and outside Sunderland, nobody had heard of him. No manager had ever put him in a regular starting XI.

Fast forward to now - even though he only has 15 career goals (very modest for a 20 year old), a club that’s on course for promotion and has just broken the League One attendance record - with a manager that’s got faith in him - has offered him a 700% pay rise on the back of three good months. I’d say that was a pretty easy decision to make from a sporting perspective. In fact, I’d say it’s a pretty easy decision to make from a financial perspective as well. He need only look at his mate Asoro and his recent career trajectory. The fact he’s finding the decision anything other than easy comes down to greed. His greed, and/or the agents.

As a club, we need to be better than that now. We need to be above it. At least long enough to shake off the soft touch image that we’ve spent ten years building amongst agents and the like.

The Hunter was on here last week saying clubs are offering sweeteners to his family etc. It's a short career and I'm sure that is in the back, if not the forefront, of his mind.

I don't think that wanting the best deal or to weigh your options is necessarily greedy. He isn't refusing to play or giving any indication he won't give his all.

We've given him a chance but equally he's scoring the goals that have us near the top.....i don't think he owes us anything.

What if he wants a premier league club?

Then he’s a moron. He’s 20 years old and has fifteen career goals. One of those - ONE - at a higher level than the third tier.

There’s still very scant evidence to suggest he could do it in the Championship. There is zero evidence to suggest he could do it in the Premiership.

Agree fully. Terribly managed by our club. Not condoning Maja and his agent but spouting crap on Twitter is no different than spouting crap on Sky fundamentally.

Don’t remember Quinn ever spouting off in the media like this. Absolute joke and makes us look worse than them lot up the road

As much as I love the bloke Quinn wouldn't have been able to keep his gob shut if his life depended on it. His constant spouting off in the press was the main reason why we spunked a fortune in transfer fees and wages for some really average players under Keane.

I think this may run for a while yet. It was the agent going to Sky to inform everyone including SAFC about the decision. Who knows Josh may speak to more knowledgeable people and stand up for himself. The agent only thinking of the bigger contract the bigger slice for himself......GREEDY parasitic bastards the lot of them.

If we do lose him its a big blow, but there's plenty of talent out there to be had. Don't ask who because I don't do the scouting JR and his staff do that.
I’d love to think Ross can sit him down tonight and convince the lad the best thing for him is so stay at SAFC. The reality is, the best thing for him as a footballer is exactly that. If he goes to a PL side he’s unlikely to play much if at all, same for any promotion chasing side in the championship. Any club aside from that and he’d likely be in the same league as SAFC next season anyway.

We should already have a list of replacements. We should just be starting to look now. If we were organized we would have already complied replacements for every position. Especially ones where the player could leave soon.

exactly. so this so called 'deadline' being 4th january is a good move by the club. even if its not a 'deadline' in the truest sense of the word, it gives us the maximum chance of coming out of it stronger, which ever way it goes. in the past there would have been no deadline, maja would have went on holiday for the whole of january without any means of communication, would have returned, we would have offered him £100k per week, then he would have got injured, we would sign someone like Lua Lua on a free and it all goes tits up.

All he gives a fuck about, his marra down in Swansea will be telling him anarl.

Money, money, money
Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money
Always sunny
In the rich man's world

Aha-aha
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world

Because it’s achiebed nothing but hated of a young player that doesn’t deserve it.

I hate to break it to you, but Maja not signing a contract that he and his agent actually negotiated for was always gonna go this way, deadline or no deadline...

I think you should admit that your allegiance leans more to Maja, then the club. You and Rat would be eaten alive at the negotiating table.
