Only because they set the stupid deadline to try and put pressure on him. Could have easy said nothing and watched him play his contract out like a number of players do in lower league
said nothing? the fans would be asking about it every day-demanding info..and the club couldnt do nothing and then on the last dauy of jan he decides to fuck off and we cant get a elacement?

It is a business. Ignoring your best asset is clueless business.
So what do you do ? Give him what he wants.ie Kone 2? Naa get rid.had his offer if not good enough go get fcuked

Why presume that he wants to leave just because he doesn't sign by the clubs deadline?

For all we know he might have every intention of signing if we are in the Championship next season.
Its called planning mate

Didn’t expect him to anyway. Got over it a while ago. All I care about now is whether he stays to get us promoted or gets pumped. Sounds like the latter.

Why? If we're being dicked about by the player and his agent why keep quiet about it?
Because for one it’s absolutely tinpot.

Two, players, agents etc will be aware of how he goes on and could well deter people in the future.

Three, things can quite easily change. What if Maja comes in tomorrow and wants to stay?

Four, again it’s tinpot.

Feel like we as a club have handled this Maja thing very poorly.

Ah well. Was hoping against hope he'd stay but ultimately no point in keeping him if he wants a higher platform/better wage. Hopefully Wyke will come good.

The same folk twisting about Donald tweeting about this are largely the same people that would be using this is a stick to beat the club with claiming we should have offered him what he wanted.

If, as Donald says, we have offered what Maja and the agent asked for and he hasn’t signed then he will have my full support in selling him on. That is taking the piss.

It still isn’t helpful at all to the situation Donald going public with this now, and it wasn’t helpful to set that signing deadline publically either IMO

Maybe. However the contracts of many of our young players should never have been allowed to get to this point by the Short regime. We could effectively be wasting the years of development we have put into about half a dozen young players. Players we could have sold for good money, or who would have improved the first team.
we developed maja for a year..but your general point stands..

Can’t really criticise the club over much they’ve done this season but I’m not sure they’ve played this one right to be honest. Don’t think a deadline is totally necessary but if you have one why make it public?

BREAKING: Sunderland striker Josh Maja has told Sunderland this lunchtime he will NOT be signing their contract offer. 15-goal Maja had until today to give his final answer to the club. Sunderland offered him seven times his current wage to stay.

Getting him sold, goodbye, we move on.

If only we had a PR man somewhere in the club..........

I don't think so mate. He's been a fantastic owner but it's still ok to disagree with some of the stuff he does. The tweet comes off pretty emotional, like he'd just got off the phone from sky and was pissed off and just vented online.

Which isn't great, particularly if the player starts tomorrow..

MAJA WON'T BE PENNING NEW BLACK CATS DEAL

Sunderland striker Josh Maja has told Sunderland he will not be signing their contract offer.

Fifteen-goal Maja had until today to give his answer to the club and we understand Maja met with them this lunchtime, despite telling boss Jack Ross yesterday he wanted to stay.

Huddersfield, Palace and Cardiff are all interested, with the player's contract is up in the summer.
