He's a young player who's had an exceptional start to the season. He'll be in demand. We either want him for the ride, assuming we're ambitious ourselves, or we don't. It's much easier to keep what you've got than to look to find gems from further afield. If he goes, we'll be unlikely to replace him, and if we do it will cost a lot of money. This is an early test of the new regime - and whilst we do need to be way more sensible and prudent than the bad old days, we also need to see this through for the best interest of the club. Simply refusing to budge isn't always the right thing!

Do you have an insight into how the negotiations are going like mate?

What makes you think the club are refusing to budge and do you know if his demands are reasonable ?

The info came from a lad who told me Bent was going the day before it all came out.
He obviously gets titbits of gen
May be he does or rather did but the clubs management structure has changed beyond recognition since the bent days so being ITK back then doesn’t mean that he still is

think he would have signed a pro contract in 2016?

what if we do recognise his potetial..but he thinks he is better than that and ois saying no?
My point is it shouldn't have got to where we have around half a dozen young players with 6 months left on their contract. Short put the club in a position where we couldn't offer contracts to anyone as he didn't want to invest anymore. We could lose a generation of accedemy players and considering that we need to move these lads on in order to fund future transfers that's not great.

im certainly not questioning your honesty. But surely he wasnt kicked out of the fulham academy right? I mean he chose to leave there to come to us? And didnt he have a trial at Man City? Now they didnt offer him a contract but surely to even have a trial at that club implies either a certain level of ability (or an exagerrated sense of his own worth)?

All I know is he went to City for a bit but they didn’t offer a contract but we did. Tbf I know of a few lads from up here who have had trials with big clubs and haven’t made it at all anywhere really, let alone the big club. Know a couple that bounced around in championship 15 year ago but only got a handful of appearances between them before not having a club at all. Think they just try and look at loads then pick the very best which is fair enough I suppose.

yes indeed. But my understanding is he was attached to the fulham academy but spent quite a bit of time at City, and then went back to fulham, and we came in as aprem club whenfulham werent in the prem, but that fulham would have wanted him.

Typical short termism (no pun intended). Maja broke into the first team under Moyes (cup games), after having an excellent pre season, then went on to play fairly regularly 2nd half of last season. Did anyone think of extending his correct? Nope. He could have signed a 3/4 year deal last year if we offered him it.

They may well have. I’ve not seen anything to suggest they did or didn’t offer him a contract tbh But for some reason I’ve always had the understanding we nicked him because they didnt want him for some reason. Similar to how we got Deacon.

absolutely, instead we spent the monen on gisbon and pinaer!
the thing im pomdering is...was asorro significanrtly more highly rated than Maja? Did they focus on sorting asoro out as they believed him the better prospect? And wghat if they were right, that Asoro was the better prospect-but he is failing hard at Swansea?
Now, of course the prudent thing would have been to sign both up, and let them fight it out.

And if he is on as little as is rumoured, that deal would probably cost less than a new one now would. It was a pretty low risk decision to offer new deals to him Asoro and Gooch at the very least 12 months ago.

Asoro always seemed the highest rated but that could just be my perception. He was often linked with massive clubs (and apparently turns them down to sign for us) but I’ve now a feeling this was more his agent blowing smoke up his arse to attract interest.

Seeing them play, I’ve always thought Maja was better and Asoro rarely looked good even for the reserves. Asoro has pace though and sometimes big clubs are more prepared to take a chance on them and develop them.

very smart of the club to get a player being released by a loeer league academy and he turn out to be as good as maja is...deadon is fdifferent in that he was released by a top level academy (and didnt make it with us either)

that will be awkward as we have loads of players who will be getting more than 15k if we go up.,..we have some getting more than it now..

I don't like his agents attitude. He should sign with us now for three years. He can still leave in the summer if he really wants to. He would help the club that have developed him and vice versa and it's a win/win for everyone. We are promotion candidates.

If him or his agent don't agree with my idea. They can pissoff.

Aye I meant similar to Deacon as in we only ended up with him because his own club didn’t want him (at least that’s what I’ve always thought).

Players get paid more than other lad at all clubs tbf. Rodwell was lording it up on 70k p/w. Players deal with it. A younger inexperience player should expect to earn less than an established experienced player. It’s natural progression. That’s not to say out higher earners are necessarily fairly paid (to what they contribute), mind. We seem to have a habit of rewarding the mediocre.

Said it before and I'll say it again: This whole "one week deadline" thing was daft and barring him signing tomorrow, has backfired massively I think.

Must admit I don’t really know any benefit of doing it tbh. Makes it sound like we are desperate to sell him instead of keeping him till end of season.

Tend to agree but we're going to want a heads up if he's off... we would need time to bring a replacement in.
