So you expect the club to take a loss on the match?

I don’t expect them to increase prices by 500% no

We are on course to lose millions this year. I’d much rather the club increases prices to cover costs, then add to the debt

Could pay for it themselves like. I don’t think new owners should put everything into debt, they got the club debt free. Poor if they do

They are gonna make money when they sell us on

Had enough of him gave up yesterday marra.

He’s canny enough but just not going to change his view on anything

Limit the capacity to 10,000 based on the previous round. Give the mags their 10% (1000) and give the Sunderland atendees from the last round first dibs on the other 9k. Open the east stand only, employ 20 coppers and 5 stewards.

Wembley Checkatrade prices Coventry city v Oxford United ........ Adult £60 £48 £42 £36 £28 £20 77,000 attendance. It may be a third rate cup but fans love a day out, chance to win any trophy etc. If this match v the mags was the final Wembley would be full and bouncing!! Just enjoy the day, let them get on with it and insist they share the policing bill!! As for the match --damned if we win damned if we dont.

You're not really comparing apples with apples here.... The previous round has a little risk for trouble as you could probably get for a 1st team game.

Newcastle will bring 5,000 fans regardless, the Police operation will be just the same as any normal Derby with them.

Why do you expect the owners to pay for it? Would you rather the club budget forecasts to be decreased based upon them having to pay for extra police out of their own pockets?

Yes there is an element of profiteering, like it or not the club needs money to get out of this division.

well yes of course it costs more...more people want to see the game...its against ateam two divisions higher than us, and its a first team game.
Bain wpouldnt have been smart enough to do it.
People want money for players, well pay for it. Accrington charged me £20 to go to their game, it was a shitter stadium, not a derby game, and I didnt get aseat.
This game is cheap at £15 on that basis.
It isn’t against a team 2 divisions higher at all.

500% looks like an absolutely massive number mate. But it’s actually £12 divided by the number of games so far, it’s £3 per game or £2:40 if you include the next match. I can’t get the bus from here to Peterlee for that ;). Depends on people’s perspective I suppose.

It’s not even their first team in action though. I don’t think anyone would advocate for a league game. It’s a bizarre match which is fundamentally wrong.

So why any different? Because there is a 50/50 split on opinion over the quality of the competion, a game that is deemed a lesser match warrants away fans being banned on the possibility of crowd trouble? I just find it strange that people are calling for anti-football away fan bans, regardless of the nature of the match

That's just a stupid idea and you know it.

Sunderland AFC is a business, you don't turn a profit (or in our case reduce losses) by turning away revenue.

These games attract trouble, as supported by the fact that the police push to ensure this kind of game couldn’t have taken place in the group stage, same as port vale and Stoke, Southampton and Portsmouth.

the point is if the owners pay for it themselves, ie run at a loss for that match, then the money doesnt go into the turnover number, and then higher wages cant be paid.
I do think saying that fans who went to earlier games in the compeition could get in for a huge dicsount would be fine, because loads of people who werent at the earlier round games will go to this because its against the mags, doing chepa tickets all round rewards those people more than those who went to earlier rounds.
This thing about them not putting more debt on it? The only way they can put money in right now is to put debt on it...ie lend the club the money..they are putting thousands a week in, which is debt.

well a club two divisions higher, probablty they wont have many of their first team playing.

They’ve always attracted an element of trouble mate. A fan ban on SAFC v NUFC games has been tried and failed miserably. The last major trouble was when we beat them 3-0 at their place, and that was them fighting with coppers and smashing up their own town.

i dont change my view when you repeat the same thibgs that arent true. They dint get the club debt free for example, the owed £20m in trafers, ellius cleared his debt, not all the debt.
As for getting the club cheap, they paid much more than quinny's mob did, and quinny's mob bought us in a gigher division.

the owners will pay it themselves. The problem is, if they pay it, it doesnt count as higher turnover, now the rules of the game are your wages have to be no higher than a certain percentage of turnobver. what an owner puts in isnt turnover, so means they cant pay higher wages, thats why utunrover has to behigher.

Yep. It’s Sunderland v Newcastle U21’s. You called people small time a few pages back. What is Small time is people equating this to a real derby. Yes it’ll have an edge but what it boils down to is this is a game for our first team against their U21’s. It’s pretty embarrassing that we are at a level now where we are playing that team in a competitive fixture for our first team. 5000 mags is f***ing scandalous too. You do not understand this rivalry at all if you’re defending this decision. Hopefully the police see sense and put the mockers on it.

I'm not sure why you're bothered about the ST priority period? It's not as if the game is going to sell out so I don't see what benefit we'd have got from a priority period? My only gripe is not being able to get my ST seat. If we're spending £15 a ticket then surely, even with increased police costs, we could afford to open the whole lower tier to our fans. My season card only works out at about £13.50 a game, I know others are more expensive but, if we get a decent crowd, I don't think takings will be massively lower than a normal league game. Maybe they're anxious it'll be a really low crowd like, but it seems a shame not to open it fully
That's what I was getting at more tbh, that I would like to sit in my seat. I asked the question earlier in the thread. Are they underestimating how many will want to go? Hence the no ST priority phase.

what are the restrictions on them in terms of foirst team players?
The point is if our fans support sunderland, then they go to games to see our first team, and £15 to see the first team of a league one club is completely normal.

The club have priced this fairly. People are complaining because its gone from £3 to £15. Yes thats a hike, but the club were underselling themselves in the other home games. If they charged a flat rate of £10 for tickets in this competition regardless then people wouldn't have complained. Yet doing so would have meant paying over 50% more in total. £24 its going to cost me to attend the 4 home games, £6 average. Great value. If they charged £5 for the other 3 games and £10 for this people wouldn't complain. People need to see the bigger picture, the club needs to cover costs, were league 1 and not in a position to lose money on games, especially when they only charging £15 for a ticket. If its too much, dont go. But then dont go when its £40+ for a ticket for the final too. People want to take take take but look at the mess we've been in, these lads are doing their best to get the club self sufficient and that needs the fans to help.
