Checkatrade trophy 3rd round draw

No it isn't the worst possible draw. You will beat our kids.

Why would you believe we will smash up the stadium. Did we smash up the stadium the last time we brought a reasonable contingent?

This is not going to be a game with 1000 in the crowd. Where some idiotic teenagers can play at being hooligans with no redress. I would imagine there will be a 20k plus crowd.

Those that 'acted the goat' at the U23 games will either not go or be as good as gold.

Fancy it

Aye, ya Fookwits couldn't hand tha shandy the last time the visited a big symmetrical ground......

The mags will be pleased that they've drawn their bigger neighbours. It's the only fixture they ever have to play for, and they always get beat.

I’ts never been my point if people are bothered about this game or not. The majority it seems, like myself think it’s a non event.
My only point? Is that it’s a brutal reminder for the home fans as to the current gap between the two clubs. It’s completaly factual in truth.

Mate, we are sitting in third with games in hand and players coming back from injury. Even you would probably accept that the most likely league for us next season is the Championship. Your lot are in a relegation battle and have lost 7 of your 9 home league games and don't score enough goals. Enjoy the gap by all means, but it's not that far fetched that the next derby after this one will be a league match in 2019.

If we can pick up a 'Mickey mouse pot' on the way back and also beat your kids on the way than its fine by me. I might be odd by Sunderland fans standards as I want us to target this competition. I am 52 years old and although I remember 1973 from watching it on TV, I was not old enough to understand the significance. I just want to see my team win a cup and I won't be embarrassed in any way shape or form if its this one.

My point has never been about where you are or the relevance of this cup mate.

In a nutshell, I’m saying that as a one off game, it’s not a derby and no fan from either side should treat it as such.

In truth a lot of us have mixed feelings on the game. Working away a lot id likely skip it but my sons desperate to go. I think ill be more eager if it does sell well as its a huge ground with 15k in.
Id like it out the way n the other u21s elimated too.
Then roll on the quarters/semi/wembley.

You keep going on about "our predicament" and how this tie "will really hit home where we are" and how it "illustrates how big the gap is". We're all fully aware of where and what we are now and have accepted it as a necessary evil to start to rebuild our club. We are getting on with things, but then again we're not the ones who are holding protests and having an MP raising "our plight" in parliament are we?

Daft bugger on 5 live today interviewed outside Sid James while we were driving back from Accrington, said Ashley was 'running the club into the ground'. They are solvent, making a profit and in the premier league. Try back to back relegation's and a £120,000,000 debt lads and the prospect of administration, that might give them some perspective and stop them shouting at shops.

The way our two sets of fans have dealt with our respective lots over the last three seasons says everything you need to know about the respective mentalities. I am proud of ours, we have taken it on the chin but stuck by the club for the most part and the humour and attitude of our fans this season has been great especially at the away games. We have not gone down thinking we are Billy Big bollocks and it has been noticed by the opposition fans we have met. Yesterday was absolutely tremendous fun with both sets of fans mixing happily.

Their lot on the other hand come across as an over entitled bunch of whinging fan boys. Their proper fans must be mortified by the mock funerals and boycouuts. As always its the vocal minority who get the attention and I don't for one minute think all Newcastle fans are like the ones who are protesting, but they make NUFC look like a laughing stock in my opinion. There are clubs getting genuinely screwed by their owners all over the pyramid. NUFC are in profit and in the top flight and whinge like they are the most hard done by of the lot.

Hope you and the boy enjoy it mate. Hopefully no repeat of the port vale / stoke scenes.

I have to agree. I've only come on this thread to try to find out when the bloody game is (cos I'll still go mind).

Mate of mine has been adamant all season that he will not go to an EFL Trophy match as he thinks the under age sides are a slippery slope. He even said he would not go to Wembley if we get there (so PM me if we get there as we would have a very high loyalty point guaranteed ticket;)).I personally think there are far worse things happening in football and realise that most other countries have something similar. I don't want under age teams in the pyramid but a minor cup is not a major issue for me. I have been to all 4 games we have played in it so far and enjoyed them all.

My mate now wants to go to the Newcastle game:lol:

We sit in our ground watching every first team game regardless, so do yous.

Well from 11 minutes on they do, and if their not having another boycouut against the owner who has them solvent and in the top flight the absolute bastard.

They will take all take all the tickets they can get. I hadn't planned to go to any Checkertrade games, including any possible final, but thinking we might need to turn up for this one.
Not having the Mags taking the piss on any level.

Might be good crack if we can absolutely hammer them.

I am actually hoping this is the draw that makes this trophy relevant to our fans. As I have said I have been at all 4 matches so far including Morecambe away which was a great turn out from our lot on a Tuesday night.

Getting the mags U21's at home will get a lot more people engaged with it and turning out. Hopefully it will also mean our management get the vibe and put out a stronger side, which means we progress to the last 8. Those fans who have been giving it a miss are then far more likely to turn up again for a quarter final and hopefully at that stage the chance of a Wembley final means we again field a decent side.

We could have got Man City U21's away, played a youth team and gone out and nobody would have noticed. This pretty much forces us to take it seriously for at least another round.

With our first team out, this is a cup we could win and it would be one of the best days out many of our fans have had if we did win it. If we continue to play a weaker second string we just dissipate the advantage we have over pretty much every other side still left in. It up to us and our management.....

Your next 2 games will tell us a lot. Less than 4 points and it’s looking grim with a ridiculously hard set of fixtures afterwards .....

No team that loses 7 of its first 9 home games and was lucky in one of the other two can consider itself comfortable.

One thing the new owners and Ross haven't experience of is any sort of derby up here yet.

We're unlikely to get anything approaching a proper one for the next few years so this is the closest we're going to get.

I would certainly hope that Ross puts out a full strength team and we blow them away in front of a decent number of fans. As it will be midweek but with cheap tickets I'd imagine 20-30k range, but as it's such a one off who knows?

Exactly mate. We could all have a very nice enjoyable evening watching our first team give them an utter spanking and they would no doubt take the piss, but would actually have to just take it and go home and wait for their next opportunity, which could still be quite a while. Our new owners are football people and I think they understand.

But it’s not really ‘you’ though is it ? It’s an under 23 team managed by a bloke I’ve never heard of.

It is 'you' mate otherwise 'you' would not be on here and all over it.

Would the mags celebrate winning the trophy?

Obviously not because we are knocking them out in the last 16.

It’s bizarre how you can see this is as big as a game as you suggest. It’s tragic that as a Sunderland fan you think we’re so far apart that this is now your derby.
A proper derby would see you hurling abuse at your Joey Barton’s, your Alan Shearers etc. Your seriously telling me your going to get so worked up over a game against a bunch of kids. Come off it.

If this is the biggest game of your season and you think it’ll pull the biggest crowd then good luck to you but we’ll agree to disagree on this one.

None of us is saying 'it's our derby' mate. Those are your words. I will go to the game, I want Sunderland to win and fully expect us to as well. I won't be coming on here giving it large when we do, I will just be happy we are two steps from Wembley rather than three. Don't flatter yourselves or your U21's mate, you are just another step on the way to Wembley as far as I am concerned. We can only beat what is put in front of us and your U21's is the probably the weakest Opposition we could have got.

'Proper Derby' FFS.........

Our real threats in this competition are probably Portsmouth and Peterborough. Pompey v Sunderland at Wembley would be brilliant and I think it would be a complete sell out.

Absolutely spot on

It really is as simple as you have said

Is it? Ooooh. I’ll have a look.

Is it? Ooooh. I’ll have a look.
Oooooooooh yes. Gerrin. They’re gonna be down amongst the dead men come Burns neet.

Imagine if they’re new owners actually exist?
Imagine if they’re new owners take them down a few months after taking over.
Imagine if we gan up?
Imagine if we carry on beating them next season?
John Lennon eat your heart out.
