Checkatrade trophy 3rd round draw

Yeah just imagine how embarrassing it will be when 50,000 of us are enjoying Covent Garden II and dancing in the fountains in Trafalgar Square on a Saturday night in the spring. It will be terrible. We can then all go to Wembley the next day and see one of our academy products lift a trophy above his head, I mean just imagine how embarrassed we would all be? Its just so cringe worthy.

I can't think of anything worse myself. Better to just try and get back to being a PL also ran scrapping around for survival, at least that way the mags won't laugh at us so much eh?
It’s a bit different to reaching the FA cup or even a 3rd rate league cup.

Do you celebrate Easter as if it was New Year’s Eve?

if i were a bookie i'm guessing the odds would be
them 1/4
draw 9/2
us 11/1

theres a big gulf in truth, Sunderland even before the last round were favourites to win this tin pot competition, they are now in truth playing the weakest "side" in it.

stop trying to dampen the expectation man ,you don't fool any fucker

You enjoy today shit stain?

This

Tbf they'll have it all lined up.

You got beat off our kids/you only beat our kids.

Well aye, you're first team couldn't do it so you are hoping the bairns can make a better fist of it.
.
Thing is though they won’t. After we hump them, not one of the gravy slurping turds will come on here.

Actually it will be the biggest game your academy has ever played and the lowest ranked opposition we have ever played and those are facts.

Its not as we have already played a championship teams U21's this season, we dicked about with our team selection by the way and drew the match and got a bonus point on penalties, which suggests to me we need to field a much stronger team to certain of winning. Get the big guns out and get ahead comfortably, then we can rest some if we are two or three goals clear.

Wyke will be looking for games by then and possibly Cattermole as well, plus depends how many games we have given Watmore by that point, those three alone would make a huge difference. I don't want to 1 goal up with ten minutes left as there is no fall back of extra time and pens are a complete lottery. We want to be two goals clear minimum.

Its the defence that would worry me and that's where we probably need to strengthen from the previous games in this competition. At least with the open nature of the club these days we will no doubt find out the clubs thinking on this one in advance

See it as massively distracting for Sunderland. Not even an official game for Newcastle .But this board will debate the worth depending on the result. Can still see the final being Man City v Chelsea reserves which defeats the whole purpose of having a tournament to give lower division teams a trip to Wembley. But in some ways would be fitting.

I’m sure we’ll sell a lot of tickets because as you correctly say, it adds a bit of spice. I’m sure it’ll be more daft bairns, probably from both sides who snap up tickets. Standard reserve game clientele.
My point, and I’m not looking for bites, was that it would be a tough reminder of where you are having to play our kids.

To be fair mate, we all know 'where we are' and clearly its not where we want to be but that does not mean we have to feel embarrassed and not enjoy it. From what I can see most of our fans are actually bloody loving it. Not that long back from Accrington and it was a tremendous weekender with experiences that will live long in the memory which the sterile corporate PL just cannot provide.

On the flip side, you now appear to be where we were for ten of the last 12 seasons, i.e. watching 7 home league defeats by the start of December and I am glad we are out of that for a bit as its depressing as fuck.

What I’ve been trying to express and I must stress it hasn’t been intended as a dig, is that a club the size and stature of SAFC cannot look at this game as a derby.
The derby is our first team playing your first team in a competitive game.
Any Sunderland fan worth his salt, surely can’t get worked up for a game against our kids as he would do against our proper team.
I’m not denying the game will get attention or more than usual will take an interest, but a club like Sunderland cannot allow a game against our kids to be such a big deal. I said earlier I’d be amazed if this is your highest capacity crowd of the season and I stand by it.
Hope you don’t see this as a wind up.
