Checkatrade trophy 3rd round draw

The fact there hasn't been a derby in a while might whet a few appetites from both sides for this one

As the fixture is not the usual derby game and it doesn't involve us playing the NUFC first team I can see something along the lines of the Celtic debacle taking place if matters are not taken in hand. People who are up to no good are likely to try and take advantage of the more relaxed atmosphere that these games are usually played under.

then you will either see (i) the mags paying a large chunk of money to transport the away fans to an U21 fixture or
A perusal of the competition rules reveals that the mags, as an invitation team, are not entitled to claim the £2400 maximum per fixture travelling expenses available to teams like us, if we were playing it at their place. It's a truly mental competition

One thing the new owners and Ross haven't experience of is any sort of derby up here yet.

We're unlikely to get anything approaching a proper one for the next few years so this is the closest we're going to get.

I would certainly hope that Ross puts out a full strength team and we blow them away in front of a decent number of fans. As it will be midweek but with cheap tickets I'd imagine 20-30k range, but as it's such a one off who knows?

Hopefully we will charge full price for this game, like Charlie said on the podcast about the Bradford game, it will be extra money for us in the transfer window.

We’ll beat them. I’ve no doubt about that. We defeated Notts County with ease and the Mags U21’s needed pelanties to beat the bottom team in the football league.

I wouldn’t be too complacent.

If their coaching staff have any sense they’ll be hammering into them that they have the chance to beat the first team of their local rivals; league one or not.

Stopped reading after the first 6 pages at some of the crying garn on...hate to be in the trenches with some on here ffs...
They drew at home to Macclesfield the other day man... our first team will see these off nee bother ...and if we happen to get beat ...we're a league 1 side not a Prem side.
Those worried about them causing bother turn up and stop them...

Complete fannies. Talking about banning away fans, and playing it behind closed doors man!

Give them 3000, if they want them. Its been many a moon since their fans used to be able to come through here and take the piss, and this will be no different. Hopefully get a big crowd in, with a fervent atmosphere. Batter them, and be another step closer to a Wembley final.

That team beat our best U23s 5-0, it won’t be a walk over by any margain.

Agreed.

I'll be very surprised if we don't attract more than 40k for this.

But they didn't did they.
Our best under U23s are in the first team.

Embleton, Robson, Hume, Hackett, kimpioka, diamond, Bainbridge, Hunter, Taylor, molyneux all players with first team experience. (Just double checked)

I’d presume we’d play the majority or Atleast most would be included in the squad.

Really. I’d be amazed if you attracted your biggest gate of the season for a match against our kids.
Your Boxing Day gate should be much higher.

Any opportunity to beat you, is an opportunity that should be embraced.

Will you also be amazed if you bring 3k plus fans? Given that you failed to muster that for your last checkatrade home game?
