All luxury and genteel compared to Scotland...Don’t think there is any boozer in Sunderland that would be off limits to a stranger, so there isn’t any ‘rough’ boozers imo.

The Mariner in Shields is a Co-Op now. Pubs are closing all over the place. Its exactly the same if not worse all over the country, its not just a Sunderland thing....
I’ve seen someone get a hiding for fuck all like.I don't think that's entirely true tbf.
What about The Times Inn underneath the bridge?
Is it just your run of the mill beers, fosters, John smiths etc?Just reopened by the lad who has Joseph's and had the Butcher's Arms.
Was in on Friday when it opened, it's spot on and not even finished yet. Only had a pint which was of sufficient quality. Will defo be back as it's pretty local for me.
What was the reason for this?Went in once cos my mate needed a piss. We walked in, I went to the bar, he walked in the direction of the toilet but got halfway there, did a U-turn and walked straight back towards me shaking his head and we walked out. He never broke stride .
Moretti on tap as well - cracking pint.Is it just your run of the mill beers, fosters, John smiths etc?

I some how don’t think the clientele of the fort are ready for craft or real ales.Moretti on tap as well - cracking pint.
Worthington's too iirc.
Didn't spot any Zimbabwean Pale Ales mind if you're one of the CAMRA snobs!
Don't speak too soon. With it being open brand new there might be a decent crowd gets in. I am certainly not a Joseph's drinker (my hair is far too nice for a start) but I like the place, I'm likely going to be sorting some live music for the place too at some point and the crowd's we bring are decent music people.I some how don’t think the clientele of the fort are ready for craft or real ales.
I knarr people will tell me it's like the Ritz, but I've never fancied venturing into The Jacksons.
Good luck marra.Don't speak too soon. With it being open brand new there might be a decent crowd gets in. I haven't been in for decades. I remember in the VHS days the manager got done for selling porn videos from under the counter. It doesn't paint a good picture.Still is, bar the stout and sherry.

True. I’m not telling me all day session round Govan and Port Glasgow story again either. All luxury and genteel compared to Scotland...
this, it'll be like that scene in the Blues Brothers getting a gig in the country and western bar
Id agree about this place being rough, not a place a stranger could go in and have a quiet pint.
