I can kind of see the point, but it will make no sense to anyone outside of Sunderland. And even if the argument is doing your tits in, it is a valid argument. It is naming a part of the stadium after a suburb of Sunderland which has nothing whatsoever to do with the stadium of light. Nothing.

At least Carter is a historical great. The Roker end has a nice ring to it, it rolls off the tongue well (meet me in the Roker end) but for me it's just wrong.

If our old ground was called Zimbo park then yes have the Zimbo end. But it wasn't, it was named after the suburb where it was.

So it doesn't make sense to transfer it to the SOL.

In my opinion.

TBF I think naming it the Roker end is more of a nod to our fans than the location of the stand. I grew up being told about the Roker Roar until I was old enough to go. I don't think it's even got anything to do with the Roker Park Roker end. More of the old ground as a whole and a tribute to the fans that went. I think the Roker End is the best option that this provided but would prefer The Brewery End for South Stand, a nod to the ship building for the Main stand, Roker End for the North stand and then something else for the east. I don't really like naming stands after people, but if that's what other people wanted I wouldn't have an issue with it, although I would prefer it to be someone who has more of a connection to the stadium than Raich Carter as it's just more of a reminder of actually how long it has been since there has been any real success. Plus the ground is 20 years old now so for me would make sense to tribute something that happened in that time (albeit not much to choose from).

Alternatively, if we are thinking about changing the badge I'd rather wait until we do that and incorporate what is on the badge to what the stand names are. I don't know of another team who does this and think it would be more cohesive. Almost impossible to do by giving fans a vote, or renaming/rebranding at separate times though.

Some good points, but it is inescapable that Roker IS a place. So defacto anything with Roker in it is named after that place, whether or not the motive is to remember the Roker roar. Which initself was named after a place.

I'm shocked it's so popular an option to be honest, looks like it will probably win.

I'll not throw toys out the pram, but it's illogical to me.

Why are people struggling to understand where the names come from?

If they bothered to click on the link they came from the biggest survey ever done of Sunderland fans.

As far as supporting there club on a match day we are hard to beat, but my do we have a bunch of moaning bores about anything, we’ve already done a survey, just pick your favourite name man.

I'm not.

The idea is to engage with fans, who will come back in bigger numbers as loyal customers.

"Roker = Roker park, "Rokerites", Roker the place... That's three in one boss!"

"What about the other options?"

"Put in a famous player and some other shite. Illusion of choice and that. Get a fan organisation on the line to give it some credibility."

"Excellent! Time for lunch!"

Roker end...not in roker.....not facing roker... nothing to do with roker... Makes sense but better than the south stand
