New South Stand Name

I remeber years ago when I had my season ticket where the away fans are now, sure it was called "The Kronenburg North Upper Stand" or some bollocks. I do however realise that this has fuck all to do with the vote.

Bit off topic but they caught a 4.6m Great White in the shark nets down the beach yesterday Berb.

I hope to fuck Malabar is netted as well. We go there or Yarra Bay.
a bit of topic!!in both geographlly and semantically you couldnt get any furtheer away from the topic if you tried!:lol::eek::eek:

I find it strange that we are going to end up naming a stand at a new ground after a stand at an old ground instead of honouring one of Sunderland's finest sons if not the finest. The Roker end was great but it should be left where it was. It never kicked a ball for us or won a tackle or scored a goal or won the League Title and FA Cup in consecutive years.

Sadly I think the numerous years that have past since Mr Carter was strutting his stuff at Roker Park, means not many of our fans realise just what a colossus he was for us. If only we had named the Roker End the Raich Carter End in the 50's then maybe we would end up with the right result here.

Let them have their fun I guess. If it doesn't work out the next owner will change it ;)

We are missing a huge opportunity to shine the media's light on a period of our history that many outside the club know nothing about. Calling the South Stand the Roker End is both geographically incorrect and a massive missed opportunity to promote the proud history of our club for once.

Every time they mention the Raich Carter end they will then need to explain who he was an what he did for us. That can only be a good thing for us a brand if you look at things that way.

This it doesn't feel right having those 4 options.

I accidentally voted Roker End can we have another vote?

The Brexit End:?:

You can't vote for a man who has born in Sunderland and won both the league and the cup for us and was a massive celebrity in his day?

Why can't you vote for him exactly? Or did you just not check what he actually achieved like many others?

Raich is on that list because of all the players who have ever represented this great club, his achievements stand proud against pretty much everyone else. T

There is a very good reason they never put Quinny or Monty on the options as neither achieved anything near what Raich Carter did for Sunderland AFC. The daft thing is I thing if they had put Monty on he probably would have won. We concentrate far too much on 1973 which portrays our club as a plucky underdog. When Raich was strutting his stuff we were anything but. We were the big boys back in those days.

I agree and voted Horatio. (On here, not the mysterious poll of 10,000 fans).

I'd name the West Stand after Raich Carter tbh. Our "main" stand. Traditionalist in that sense. Manchester United have their singing/standing end in the Stretford End (links to local area) and then named one of their other stands after Sir Alex. I like that set up and think we should follow suit.

I didn't check what he achieved.

What would you want it to be named? Not been sarky. Just interested. I think they are all ok tbh. The wearside end doesn't sound right, though i wouldn't mind the Wearside stadium as a name. All opinions, so there isn't a right or wrong answer
I went for Wearside end without even thinking because i always thought the stadium should have had that name but on reflection you're right it doesn't really sound right as an end.
Raich Carter. :neutral::neutral::neutral:

Seems a bit late to be honouring him now.

It's 80 years since he played for the club.

Shackleton played for the club longer and more recently
I don't think time should be an issue, we should celebrate our history.
Shack though never won anything and he's not even in our top 5 appearance holders or goalscorers.
Despite his iconic status there are others far more deserving than him, Raich being one of them.
People should absolutely know who he is. If people don’t its because the club have been negligent in celebrating our illustrious past for far too long. Other clubs are much better at it than we are. We celebrate mediocrity far better than we do genuine success.
This all over

I'd name it after the club's top goal scorer, as the club (and the local council) seem to have forgot about honouring him.
I hope Gurney is an option for one of the other stands.

Fans still have time to vote on what they’d like the new name of the South Stand to be - and, as Rebecca Johnson writes, it’s massively important that the Sunderland supporters take some pride in helping the club to rebuild it’s identity. Last week Sunderland announced that supporters will have the opportunity to vote for a new name for the...

More at Roker Report...

Are there plans to name the other stands or just the South Stand? One should be named after Raich Carter I think. Hope we don't go back to having sponsors names for the other stands (e.g. the Carling Stand which was the North Stand- didn't we also have the Foster's Stand at one point too?)
