Anyone been looking into this crack with Fibre?

I hope fibre is good for you. Eat loads of it. Suger is the devil though. That's easy.
My plan/hope here is twofold

1 - Stop eating artificial sweetners, as they kill the gut microbiome
2 - Eat more fibre as that provides a substrate for the microbiome to grow

Then, once I've improved this (taking probiotic pills too, just in case they are of any use at all), I'm hoping my cravings for sugar go down a bit to help me start to cut that out too.

I wouldn't for a second suggest anyone has this whole thing cracked, but I think its become clear that

1 - Its not as simple as people make out
2 - There's definitely something in all of this, but exactly how it fits together is a long way off being known

Hope you're feeling better soon mate.

Cheers mate. It was work related and I handed my notice in on Thursday (I have a job to go to thankfully) and I'm on holiday this week, so stress levels definitely rescinded! My resting heart rate per my Fitbit rose 22% during the same period - in such a short space of time too!

Agree on your two points too - I think a lot of it is just finding what works for you. My own fitness journey started when I developed complications with my diabetes - they were reversible but I had to improve my control. This was easier to do if I knew exactly how many grams of carbs I was having on a daily basis. And that was easy if I knew the answer was very few (and counted accurately). Therefore, I restricted carbs and virtually 'invented' keto without having read anything on it.

A lady I worked with said she started not eating breakfast and the weight fell off - she'd never heard of intermittent fasting but just found something that worked for her.

As you've said as well there's so much research based information out there it's difficult to wade through at times but I think if you can find something that works for you that avoids a lot of processed foods you're on to a winner!

How's the fibre increase going mate?

Yep, I think that's exactly where we are today. In 25 years, I guess we'll know loads more.

I'm still trying to increase the fibre - although I try to limit bread, I have started eating it more now, as I'm eating wholemeal with seeds which is pretty good for fibre. Also eating porridge (rolled oats) most mornings (its really good, it actually keeps me full until 12 ish).
Need to keep increasing the fibre though, but this is a good way to do it rather than blasting myself with 3x my normal overnight.

A bowl of all bran for breakfast and a bowl for supper is what I do.. Roughly 10-12g fibre in each bowl depending on how much I have. Add to that 5-10g from other foods throughout the day and it's easy enough.

I can't have supper due to my Gerd. Otherwise that would be a canny idea

Aldi do a 'slimfree' frozen veg curry with a masisve 24g fibre in if you're struggling.
I could actually adjust als Kitchen curries in a similar way come to think of it..

Chickpeas are lovely for example

BTW, I still seem to shitting a lot.

One of the reasons I mostly go for Dhansaks these days

You're might still be eating more than you're burning. When I get the balance right I have one a day at most & can sometimes go a couple of days without one regardless of how much fibre.

I've struggled to find foods that I would say "I really like that" for years. Even a lot of the crap I eat is purely for convenience rather than taste. But it dawned on me a while back that I really really like loads of different types of beans, and they're healthy as owt.

Yeah, I'm not at all trying to cut down on calorie/fat intake - trying to do things one step at a time. Couple of months to settle into getting fibre into my diet (and a feint hope that the probiotic pills might actually do something - I'm not counting on it, and then again, how would I even know!)
Then hoping doing this might make the next step - cutting out actual sugar (I've already cut out sweeteners).

3-4 times a day for me, I'm plant based though so get a ton of fibre some days 50+g mostly around 45-50g. Chickpea and Tofu curry is really good, multi bean chillis are really nice as well. tesco do these mixed bean tins in spicy sauce tht are good for quick meal with rice/potato.

Aye, I've been enjoying those tins of mixed beans.
I think I've hit a plateu at the moment, although I've not calculated it. I need to do that, then look how to push on again.

I'm certainly not feeling any worse for this over the last month. I might be feeling a tiny bit better, but I didn't expect it to be an immediate thing

Really?

I'm already taking
2 x prescription meds
1 x cod liver oil
1 x probiotic
every day.
What's the crack with fibre pills?

I was thinking about looking at Huel again tbh. My lunches are still my dietary week spot.

Huel out of the question, it has sucralose in it.

I take it instead of statins, as it's meant to lower cholesterol, which lowers the risk of complications with my diabetes, but psyllium husks are essentially pure fibre. 3 x capsules in the morning and three at night give you a couple of grams of fibre. But then it's a pretty expensive way of getting a little bit more. May be worth looking into though.

Edit: changed the amount of fibre - originally I had less as I think my box had fibre per capsule on rather than three capsules' worth.

what do you mean? They're tablets, with fibre in them. If you're struggling getting enough it's an option.

Its just the "tablets" bit - seems odd that there might actually be a magic pill!

I did look into them, and will consider it. Thanks.
