It’s the fact they revere him purely because of his name. He’s done a solid job - as I would hope someone with his cv would - but nothing more. Ashley is a strange one like - he gambled a lot on the window before they went down then he sanctioned spending / wages to get back up but then he’s given scraps really - in modern terms - since they got back up.

Then again the FSW has spent what he has had poorly. He’s gotten rid of mitrovic and Gayle and replaced them with worse players at greater expense.

He wasn't a good manager before he went there like. In the 3 jobs he had prior to The Mags he got the sack at West Ham after overseeing their worst run of defeats for 70 years, took Charlton from the Premier League to the bottom 3 of the Championship and then got sacked by Southampton when they were in League 1

Also been terrible in his two jobs after Newcastle.

After spending an absolute fortune. He's done the minimum expected in the Championship, whilst taking them down once and having them rock bottom another in his time in charge in the Premier League. Apart from his name, he's done a very poor job.
