It's a public body.

What happens at a weekend that routinely mean trains don't run properly on a Monday morning?

They do maintenance routinely on a Saturday and Sunday - does something happen here that affects Monday mornings?

They don't run as many trains on a Saturday or Sunday - are the un-used trains the ones that are failing?

Do more staff call in sick on a Monday than any other day?

That's just off the top of my head - if my Monday performance was always terrible my company would try and get to the bottom of it at least.

They do maintenance every night but are fighting a losing battle because the rolling stock is so old.

This morning they blamed LRA for one set of delays - this could have been dealt with.

They also had a signal failure.

Neither of which are anything to do with old rolling stock.

I didn't know that. Do the rail mainlines never suffer signal failures?
