It's a rapid transport system. Both Cities you mention also have far superior local rail services.

What a shambolic system the Metro is. They think the new trains due in a few year will change everything for the better, but they’ll be useless unless they seriously improve the infrastructure (instead of doing bits here And there as they currently do)

You can have a Ferrari, but unless you drive on a well maintained road, it’s useless.

not a unique problem with the metro, having once been on a bus in glasgow i doubt the metro will be the worst smelling public transport system.
