Hang on. He bowled a ball into a footmark and got a wicket? He's taken 3 wickets in the game. It's ok but it's not brilliant.

A leggie gets spin, what's new?

Don't think anyone has called him brilliant.

Not making excuses. I wouldn't be even playing him. Not stating reality. Root doesn't trust him. Neither do I.

Doesn't mean I don't want him to clean them up though.

With Jadeja trying to knock him off his line, try a yorker.

Good decision to take the new ball now imo.

Sharma LBW ;)

Curran should be useful with the new ball

Dharmasena having a great game.

To be honest his first 30 odd tests where he averaged 36 and was being pissed about by experts trying to change his action were a waste of time. He wasn't a top class fast bowler til then and would probably average around 23 since that period.

Interesting stat about Bob Willis which has probably been mentioned on here but he had 325 wickets at 25 better than Jimmy but bowled just under 1000 no balls that didn't go against the bowlers name at the time. his average would have been 29 had it done so.

Absolutely brilliant. But McGrath's average is 21

As mentioned the reason Jimmy's average doesn't compare to McGrath and Steyn is that they were test ready from game 1. Jimmy played 30 tests where he was rough around the edges and he was murdered by our coaching staff. From 2009 onwards his average would have been around 23 I reckon.

Good points. Any idea how many wickets he got in his first 30 tests?

Be charitable. I mean, I think he's absolutely shite - but if it had turned anymore he'd have bowled the lad at the non strikers end?!

Ambrose's is like that too.

Just checked: 405 wickets at 20.99!!!!

Terrifying.

I'm not sure. I do remember him touring WI at the beginning of 2009, it was his 32nd test, his bowling average was 35 and there was still debate as to whether or not he was good enough. On that tour he bowled brilliantly on flat pitches, giving away nothing, reversing it cleverly and from that point onwards he was superb.

Dale Steyn 421 at 22.6 isn't bad either
