England v India 5th Test

What a f***ing disappointment. Just as he'd played himself in.

Don't know why we're persisting with Ali at three. Bumrah will be banging them in short.

Got a source for that? Or just guessing?

There’s no way Cook would have been dropped regardless IMO.

About as much source as you have to say he would have played.

It's a reasonable punt given he was averaging 18 for the series, it's a dead rubber at Burns and Stoneman's home ground, both openers were failing and there's a pressing need to try out other options.

Good to see Ali playing patiently. Not sure he will trouble the scorers for long though.

There is absolutely no f***ing chance Cook would have been dropped and you know that.

I said it was my opinion, you said it as though it was a fact.

I have seen absolutely nothing to indicate he would have been dropped for this test if he hadn’t announced his retirement.

Cook's replacement should be playing here, whoever that may be. Instead of Jennings or at 3.
Australia will be creaming themselves at the thought of Jennings opening.

Jennings will not be opening against Australia.

Or Sri Lanka. Or the West Indies.

He's shot. His dismissal today was absolutely abject. If you're getting caught at leg slip trying to work a nurdle of your hips, you need to take a look at yourself.

Poor - and should be the nail in his coffin.

Will have to be two new openers. Burns and who? Reckon they may try Denley - but he doesn't open very often for Kent anymore. Giving Bairstow gloves back rules that experiment out. Gubbins? Would be a real punt with his average at 35 but maybe he has something. Mitchell at Worcester? I'm really not sure who there is, Burns aside.

No doubt kybosh it, but this is proper test match batting. Dig in, take the leather off the ball and wear the bowlers out. Ali has rode his luck but kept to the script.

True, but Buttler and Stokes tried last game. Remember most pitches around the world are like this.

Yes, its an excellent test in that respect.

But it's f***ing dire as a spectacle and the Oval keeps doing it. It's a pet hate of mine - but I'd like to see its guaranteed slot taken away and given to Edgbaston, which is basically our Brisbane, produces entertaining matches almost without fail and much more accessible for the rest of the country.

Can't have it both ways, people moan when we produce normal English style wickets.

I don't.

Who does?

I f***ing love test cricket when it has something for the bowlers in it. What makes England best place to watch test cricket in the world, generally.

Same mate, just always read that we need flatter pitches to prepare players for subcontinent

I remember when we won a test against the Aussies and Anderson ran through them, Smoker and co were saying how the fact it was bowler friendly took the shine off the win.

It was a normal English pitch and Root made a 100 on the same day

I'm with you

ali struggling like, still there mind

I think England have done well. Could have easily be four or five down.

Loads in this pitch and imo England would have had them five down by now
