Apt choice of word (even if not intentional) Who is the second team in this race? Champions League finalists of that season Atletico Madrid or eventual league champions Barcelona?

La Liga is very much a three horse race every year these days, only a total dafty would think otherwise. Just noticed Real Madrid were 'relegated' last season too. European Champions - relegated.
Might have know you'd pick up on a typo,

I know they go through managers like no one else, but come on, even you must admit he was poor at Real Madrid.

So is La Liga a two horse race or not? Like you suggested? We both know it's not so stop talking shite.

He wasn't that bad imo but his style of football was in stark contrast to what Real fans were used to and he was on a hiding to nothing. A very poor combination of his tactics and the expressive nature of his playing squad didn't fit at all.

He also got hammered in El Classico iirc and that was the final nail in the coffin. I'm just glad the next stage of discrediting Benitez has now moved onto forensic analysis of Real Madrid's performance three years ago. What a time to be alive.

In a 2 horse race, he had them in 3rd place. That's the equivalent of a relation battle for Real Madrid.
Not really a two horse race is it, unless you mean 3rd in a two horse race where the 3rd horse had won the league and reached the champions league final in 2014 , a year and a bit before he arrived. Also that same season that 3rd horse finished 3 points behind the champions, and reached the champions league final again. Atleti are genuine challengers. Finished 2nd last season again.

Aye they didn't do too badly under Benitez, think they scored 70 odd goals in 25 games and lost just 3 times. Also had a record breaking champions league group campaign.
Couple of high scoring wins as well from The Defensive One, 10-0 and 8-0.
