Local league cricket

Maybe the lads that have left or are not turning out for the club are dissolutioned with mercenaries who have no affinity for Brandon, but just come for the cash?

I’ve no idea if this is the case, but a possibility.

The bigger picture is there is a lot of clubs now struggling for numbers, so it's no surprise 2nd teams are conceding games.

Rainton lost by 1 wicket to Stanhope. In a brilliant game, pleasure to be involved with. And Stanhope all came back for a drink too.

Rob who is currently top of NEDL and if they win are they likely to want to go up?

Ignore me didnt read earlier post.

Apparently, Tudhoe 2nds v Horden 2nds was played with 6 men on each side!

It’s a question of when not if, that certain leagues allow only 1 team to be able to enter their league
They already do. It's called the North East Durham league. When pyramid was established it was agreed that if you could only raise one side that was the league you had to be in. As sustainability of clubs at higher level is based on a wide player pool ie 2 teams.

Hunwick hammered Murton by bowling them out for 82 and then knocking them off without losing a wicket.

Their 2nds conceded on Friday night.

Good victory - much needed after recent weeks. Makes sure we stay up.
Hunwick really seem to be finding their feet. Well done lads.

Aye Kimblesworth won both divisions and both sides currently undefeated. I believe they wish to be promoted and meet almost all criteria. With bottom DCL 2 side coming other way. Either Murton or Silksworth look likely.

Do you think you'll keep a Sunday 3s next season mate?

Would’ve thought so. Probably be stronger to be honest.

Not in my experience.

As I mentioned the other day, I think now is the time for the pyramid to be fully based on playing merit from top to bottom - with firsts and seconds (and thirds too for clubs who have Saturday third teams) fully integrated into the pyramid.

Some of the Second Teams in the NEPL2 will be better than many sides within the DCL1, some may even be better than some teams in NEPL1 - so for me, I feel the best way to produce competitive cricket from top to bottom is to do away with Second XI leagues and just allow sides to find their natural level. I think in around 3/4 seasons there’d be a much better balance throughout the pyramid and it would do away with a lot of the ridiculously one sided fixtures we’re seeing week in, week out.

For me, that’s the best way to keep (or even boost) participation - because as I’ve seen at Brandon, it’s no fun getting humped week after week.

Yeah I know mate, I am aware of that, sorry I should have phrased my point only a matter of time before more leagues do.

The North East Durham League is actually the one league that his some common sense and realises what local cricket is about and that in this current climate it's unrealistic to ask teams for as much stuff as other leagues do.

For example a league telling a club they must have a third team! To enter a first team in a league in this day and age is ridiculous and it will only be a matter of time before that changes.

Would’ve thought so. Probably be stronger to be honest.

The problem with that is it makes to much common sense, therefore it will not be implemented, that is exactly what is required, I think what you are saying is exactly what has been happening in the NYSD league for years and seems to work perfectly well.

It is not fun get humped every week, and turning scratch teams out, remember happening to my club on a regular basis it was one of the main reasons I packed in playing.

We're playing Murton 2s on Monday. Really hope they can raise a side.

If struggling on a Saturday, less chance on a bank holiday, was at Murton a few weeks ago watching their first team play with 10 men, and they second team had conceded their game that day, so don't like your chances!

No coincidence that in the south of the region there are fewer concessions and clubs folding. Both the NYSD and D&DL follow the grade system model and it works. All teams find their natural level, people don't get put off by one-sided games. It is the way forward.

The dreaded double weekend!

Think it's going to be doubtful if yesterday was anything to go by.

We thought they cancelled the 2's so that they had the strongest side possible to play against us (to try and give them a fighting chance of staying up) but they turned up with 10.

Feel sorry for them because they're a decent set of lads but I think the writing is on the wall amd they'll be playing in the NEDL next season.

The dreaded double weekend!

In all my time playing cricket I never remember winning on a bank holiday Monday, we always had a shit side out, the amount who used just to drop out was unreal.

Surely if that applied the opposition would have been weakened to the same degree?

I enjoy Bank Holiday Monday games

Yeah that's absolutely fair enough and a really good point, but that never ever happened with us:(

Every season we start of well then come the first bank holiday Monday we would have no side out whatsoever, cant remember in 20 odd years wining a game on a bank holiday Monday.
