He’s 25 not 17 like

Cannot beat a bit of pedantry! Its canny young 25. OK then reasonably young lad made a terrible error of judgement. He deserves a second chance and he's a good cricketer. fair points about the likelihood of Ashes picks though.

Also everyone seems to be happy to have Stokes back after getting pissed up, trying to bribe his way into a night club, flicking tab ends at gay people and smashing the living daylights out of two unarmed blokes. However on the plus side hes not an Aussie. waiting for nibbles from others

He was a novice by test cricket standards and, if you're instructed by a captain and a senior player to look after a piece of plaster it's understandable imo if you comply. Ball tampering to various degrees is commonplace with transgression normally penalized by a run penalty. I thought the Aussie response to it was ott especially when more serious transgressions were ignored. He was a junior member of a team acting on instructions by more senior players. He transgressed and was severely punished. Move on.

It's an August/September Ashes series as well, if he does well in the first half of the season he'll be a likely pick.

Not sure about this.
Agreed but if we’re looking at a top class overseas player then the bulk will be at the World Cup. Think most clubs will end up with multiple overseas players over the course of next season. Presumably if he gets an Ashes call up then you can try and nab a replacement post-World Cup. Maybe even Latham again.

With Lees and now Bancroft, I wonder if we’ll see Steel down at 3?
Perhaps but I can see a case for any of them having the slightly easier spot.
Lees - hasn't played 1 class recently, needs to build confidence - but at least he's used to N. England conditions.
Bancroft - both the pitches and ball will be alien to him, a tough gig opening at the Riv for him.

Once they have a few games under their belt they should all be interchangeable for positions 1, 2 or 3 I reckon.

Served his time so why not? If we didn’t sign him somebody else would.

Wouldn’t have bothered me if we’d signed Smith or Warner.

They cheated of that there’s no question and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the smug fuckers on their knees but that’s gone now so move on.

I still say the punishment was harsh for the crime anyway and I was very surprised at the reaction .

There certainly seems to be a lot of posters around with low moral standards, far be it for me to judge anyone but to be going from gloating and laughing at the cheating Aussie b@stards (this refers to me) I am now expected to welcome one of them into the Durham fold with open arms, it doesn't sit comfortably with me, but there you go.

It’s a gamble by Durham. He’s certainly going to get stick everywhere he plays. If he comes through this and is successful, then an Ashes call up is not out of the question.

But I guess his stock is so low that he’s seen as vfm for an international cricketer who available over all formats for the whole season.

Still, this doesn’t sit too well with me. This was way across the line of cricketing standards. Surely he must have known this was wrong? Lack of morals.

I may be wrong but felt the same when it happened to Amir.

When senior figures in the dressing room tell you to do something it is very difficult to say no.

Of course he did wrong, but how much of it was his idea in the first place?

Very little I suspect but guess we will never know.

Think he will be good signing.
