Striker
Team named 24 hours before play.

Cook, Jennings, Root, Malan, Stokes, Bairstow, Buttler, Curran, Rashid, Broad, Anderson.

Ali & Porter miss out.

Wonder which of the spinners India will pick?

Picking Curran over Porter screams the selectors wanting more depth in the batting.

Thousands of unsold tickets for this one supposedly anarl.

Ed Smith continues the mantra of the last set of selectors in picking bowlers for their batting capabilities.

Brittle batting line up.

Should have plenty of depth on paper but Malan was poor against Pakistan, Stokes looks off form (head is elsewhere) and Bairstow should play as a specialist batsman with Buttler keeping wicket. The big question is whether Jennings is the player who joined Lancashire or the same wreck who last played for England.

Not sure what I make of Curran. He's only young and a decent county player but doesn't have enough pace and variation to trouble test batsmen and can't see that changing much on account of his build. He's the sort of meat and drink medium fast, short-arsed bowler Indian batsmen face week in week out at home.

The fudging of the bairstow and Butler issue is absurd really. Take the gloves off Bairstow , bat him 5 and tell him that that’s is role for the forseeable. It’s been clear for god knows how long that we couldn’t afford to waste him at 7 given our batting has been pitiful.
I don’t get the Curran selection either. Too small and farts it out. Don’t see a test match career in him as a frontline bowler.

The selection of Curran looks like we've picked two 4th seamers (if Stokes is able to bowl). If they're picking Rashid you'd think he can bat well enough that they would be ok with Broad, Anderson and one other bowler as your 9-11.

I also didn't realise Stokes his going to miss the 2nd test due to his trial. Surely can't pick Curran as 3rd seamer then. So why not pick someone you think will play both games? Or are they hoping Woakes will be in nick by them?

(I hope Curran makes me regret this post)

Disappointed with this, was looking forward to seeing Porter. Can see this bowling attack looking short of ideas after the ball is 15 overs old and the sun's out. Go after Curran and Rashid and Root will bowl the rest into the ground.

Personally think people are being harsh on curren he's 20year old and improving all the time

Not saying he won't be a test player I just don't think he's up to being one of 3 seamers at the moment (with the doubts about Stokes' fitness at the moment)

Over £70 for a day at England v India is a nonsense like. I was gonna go on Friday but with travel, ticket and subsistence would probably have cost over £200 (partly my fault for leaving it too late with the travel).
