The Mags and money...

Did he pay the market value on it? Of he didn't then obviously that's something that should be stopped, it wasn't making any money for the club at this point though I'm guessing?

Yeah you're right. But its land nufc could've developed and made money from, or expanded the ground if the need ever arose. Now its going to be student flats which he will benefit from.

Just to illustrate how little interest NUFC holds for him,
A couple of years ago Ashley bought a patch of land in London for £140m to develop into flats. In order to get planning permission he paid a further £40m to relocate a school nearby.

Newcastle is small change to him, one of many interests. As long as the advertising exposure is there for his retail empire he's not arsed what happens.

Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so.....

No they wouldn't, that's the biggest problem with Newcastle fans, they would not snap your hand off for 10th, I do think football is a joke because it is the pinicle for clubs like ours and that makes it pointless, but a lot of other fans can grasp it.

I don't for a second believe there's a single Newcastle fan under the age of 50 who will accept it.

I'm 30 and would snap your hand off for 10th. I'd take just avoiding relegation every season we are stuck with that fat **** too. The sooner he makes his money and fucks off the better.

Sadly a catastrophic fuck up and fall from grace similarly to your current plight appears the only way we could hope to get rid of him, when keeping the club is no longer financially viable for him.

Exactly. Not interested in how the team performs as long as the billboard is on show

But any of the 14 could be relegated. only 7 teams have been in the PL more than 6/7 years. Everton sent for big sam last season to save them. the only way you guarantee survival is have a squad like the top 6. The top 6 squads value approach £1bn. The problem with managers (particularly Rafa) and fans is they are always just 1 or 2 more players away from what they want.

Look where we are. I think we will have a good 3 or 4 years - win more games than we lose and maybe a couple of promotions. Then what we hit the glass ceiling we had for the last 11 years. Its modern football. Its shit

The thing no Newcastle fan can explain to me - MA hasn't took money out of the club and has paid off the debts. He gets free advertising and but he doesn't take interest on his loans. So what fans want MA to be is a sugar daddy ?

He has said he does not have the money to be a meaningful sugardaddy and he offered the club for sale and no sugardaddy came forward. Ipso Facto no one in the world wants to spunk their hard earned money on funding nufc to live beyond its current means. Basically nufc want to be city or Chelsea but no one wants to be your sugardaddy. You are like a fat ugly bird who wants a rich boyfriend but can only get a tight fat bloke who prefers his beer.

I'd settle for a West Ham or an Everton or even a f***ing Brighton at the minute. Nobody wants us to be a super rich global force not realistically anyway.

We have gone from top 5 to top 10 to barely hanging on under his regime. If he was serious about selling he would have gone. When Ellis was serious he found a buyer. It isn't hard. His opinion of the worth of the club is not realistic considering the training grounds a state and lots of other areas need investment.

I'm sure there are countless threads on the Mags, Ashley and all that, so apologies, but can anyone clear a few things up for me?

Are Newcastle, as a club, actually in profit, or are they in debt?

If the club is making money, and he's not spending it, then I get moaning about that. But if they're in debt, or running at a loss, then can they seriously demand Ashley spend money?

And how much have they actually spent since Rafa was there? I know (unlike us) they've sold players at huge profit, which is usually when they start talking about net spend and all that, but even then they still need an owner to allow them to spend and not just keep those profits.

I find their whole demanding money a bit odd - getting MPs standing up demanding he invest or go or whatever - but if they're making vast sums then maybe that's why?
I think you are giving the MP too much credit.

You can be in profit and in debt. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Your mixing up your Profit and Loss statement with your Balance Sheet.

OK, I know that - I was getting at a more general are they losing money or making it (without servicing incredible debts, etc).

Excuse me, Carol Vorderman.

EDIT: Or Rachel Riley, for the younger crowd.

To be honest they are probably minted, I'd imagine Mike is just wary of letting Rafa waste more money on more mediocre players and who could blame him.

Exactly, Rafa spunked £ 200 million away at Liverpool, he's great at spending money. Trouble is he usually buys complete shite.

but you finished ahead of west ham last season and two places behind Everton. You are the same - whats your problem? they each bought a new toy in the last week and you want one. West ham came a lot closer to relegation than you lot last year. There is no such thing as a top 10 other than any individual seasons positions (Bruce got us to 10th ). And in case you missed it you did finish 10th last year.

I actually know a bit about the sales process - i said it was dead long before local journos (check my posting around turn of year). The unpalatable facts is no one produced a fully funded bid. It seems no one could see beyond Amandas blonde hair. THERE IS NO ONE WANTS TO SPEND MONEY ON NEWCASTLE

This was linked on twitter today, which is always good for football finance gossip,
there was a similar one for us last season showing how much in the shit we were

The land behind the gallowgate was bought by Mike Ashley from Newcastle United so he can build student accommodation on it. That rules out any income for the club from that in the future and if somehow we ever had the need to increase capacity then the only way to increase it has now gone
The club bought that land years ago hoping to redevelop the stadium, but the planners knocked it on the head, the protected status of the Leazes Crescent area means the stadium can't ever get any bigger ( hence it's lopsided shape) so Ashley bought it for building land.
Eventually the council will evict the football club to a brownfield site and sell the very valuable site, it's a huge council house at the moment. And without a home to call its own who would stump up hundreds of millions for NUFC.

Newcastle have 1000 year lease on the land and own the stadium. The council would have to buy the structure. There's no benefit to them doing this due to the way it would harm local businesses who make an absolute packet on match days.

Good video that. Basically saying they're making it look much worse than it is and is asking a ridiculous fee to sell it.
Like people have been saying, he doesn't want to sell so has the price at a ridiculous level.

What ever way you spin it - there is zero evidence MA is milking the club. The dispute with MA is that he wont act as a Sugar Daddy - even though he does in part because he funds loans

He is rinsing the club of £600k a year by appointing a PR firm he as a high stake in. Also the near £700K the club pay to lease the land behind the Gallowgate. Beyond that, there's little point getting involved with anything at length as you clearly think we want Ashley to blow his fortune on us when it patently isn't the case going by the comments of Newcastle fans on here.

you use the word rinsing and cobble together £1.3m of spend. You have £130m of loans he does not charge you a penny on. Rinsing is a deliberately pejorative term - no rinser would give £130m of interest free loans. Fees and interest at least £7m a year you are not being charged for by the rinser. And £1.3m would not pay a mediocre full backs wages for 6 months. So he takes no salary, no dividends and no interest on a £130m of loans but he rinses the club because you use his PR company for a few hundred grand a year.
