Anthony Bourdain DNYT

Loved his books - New York Gangster novels - he's known as a chef but he was a great fiction writer as well. I always hoped he'd bring out more novels but alas too late now.

Absolutely gutted here. An absolute hero of mine. Whenever I go to a new country I always make a point of going somewhere he's eaten I'm one of his shows. I thought he was great. What a shame.

Same as you always like to go to his recommendations, Minetta tavern in new York is one.

Really sad news and surprising with following him on Instagram. Don't usually feel that much with celebrity deaths but this one has got me a bit

But a lot of mental health issues can kick in or flip suddenly and people can mask mental health issues in public and also, unlike physical illnesses, celebrities may be reluctant to reveal that they suffer from something.

It is tricky, it doesn't always mean people have had a long history with mental illness and been hiding it

I might have just woke up and had an episode

I think its dangerous to assume stuff

Can't believe he's dead.
Great shows been watching him for years. Never thought he would commit suicide but bet it was to do with Asia Argento.
She was photographed few days ago with another man.

Seems to be yeah, as I say, don't always assume its a long battle with mental illness

Didn't see it coming like, awful.

There's been a canny few suicides in the news this week. Very sad.
This ..seems a lot of celebs really struggling especially when a little older,,,v sad ..cannot imagine how much pain you must be in when you "seemingly" have a lot going for you

Very sad news... I am a huge fan of his and this one hits me right in the heart. I have everything he has written and have watched everything he has ever done.
RIP

Our lass just told me this. She’s absolutely gutted, she loved him and watched his shows weekly. She can’t understand why he’d do that as he was so successful.
What little I’ve come to know about depression, the outside material success seems to mean absolutely nowt in terms of internal happiness. They said Kate Spade sold her business for billions and she was still tortured inside.
It still shocks me that there are people out there that still think that mental health is just something people "can get over". A good friend of my son's suffers from depression, and at one point it got rather severe but when I tried talking to his parents about it, they were so nonchalant about it. Like he just needed it to get over the flu or something.

When I went to Berlin I went to Rogacki (sp) at his recommendation. It was absolutely amazing. They had a picture of him up there too.

Yeah, been through it myself. The biggest problem can often be admitting to yourself that you have a problem, in my experience at least.
Yeah. I didn’t even recognise it in myself. Only just realised and begun to dig myself out of it. In the process I’ve lost a lot and it’s tough - maybe impossible to put it all back together again. This for someone who by average measures had ‘nothing to be depressed about’. People looking at bourdain will no doubt think that many times over. But it doesn’t care a bit about your life circumstances.

I'm in the UK and my Mrs rang me this morning from Kuwait to tell me. She is absolutely gutted. Anthony's various programmes were watched religiously in our household. He was a unique character that had many flaws and weaknesses, but all the same, he was highly amusing and entertaining. I can imagine that the hangovers, for those that spent time in his company, were brutal.

Genuinely feeling quite gutted about this.

When you hear it's suicide it just knocks something out of you - so senseless it almost makes you angry, especially in the context of all of the genuine love and respect coming across in the tributes to him today.

It's never ultimately to do with a lass, maybe it's a trigger but there's always something deeper
