Anthony Bourdain DNYT

My friend is going to be gutted. She loves him. Unfortunately she is locked away in some daft mediation thing in Thailand with no access to internet so she's going to get the news a week late.

Suicide.
Yet again you never can tell what's really going on with people.
Seemed to be really happy, dating Asia Argento, career going well etc.
RIP

Chef Anthony Bourdain found dead at 61

Very sad! Kitchen Confidential is an excellent read and what I've seen of his TV broadcasting career was excellent. Obviously, also seems to have been an exceptional chef.
Not the type of thing I would normally read but it was recommended and I really enjoyed it.
Liked him as a presenter as well. He's abused his body and I guess his mind over the years with all the drink and drugs and I'm not sure this is a big surprise.

Our lass just told me this. She’s absolutely gutted, she loved him and watched his shows weekly. She can’t understand why he’d do that as he was so successful.
What little I’ve come to know about depression, the outside material success seems to mean absolutely nowt in terms of internal happiness. They said Kate Spade sold her business for billions and she was still tortured inside.

But a lot of mental health issues can kick in or flip suddenly and people can mask mental health issues in public and also, unlike physical illnesses, celebrities may be reluctant to reveal that they suffer from something.
Yep. I was very good at hiding my depression from my family.
If you've been through it yourself it's sometimes possible to spot it in others who are outwardly fine but drowning inside.

Been obsessively watching his shows for many years, have all his books and a real hero of mine. Don’t think a week goes by without me binging on No Reservation, Parts Unknown or the Layover. When i saw the thread it shook me if i’m honest. Follow him on instagram and there was no clue to this happening at all. Gutted. RIP Tony

Yeah, been through it myself. The biggest problem can often be admitting to yourself that you have a problem, in my experience at least.

I never thought of him as a great chef but a very good cook, food author and presenter, who seemed to be very personable and humorous.

RIP Anthony.
