Leicestershire v Durham - Thursday 7th June - One Day Cup

Well he hasn't played it well has he... The tables dont lie. We've just finished bottom of the one day cup, absolutely embarrassing. Yes I was happy to see players like Rushy and Rimmington not involved this week, I said after Friday, play the academy lads. Playing Richardson has back fired today. I've answered the loanee question several times already. "Doesn't tally with what I want to see". What I want to see is Durham doing well, what I'm currently seeing this season and many parts of last season has been a complete embarrassment littered with bizarre decisions. Of course Lewis has done some good at the club, so has David Harker if we are playing that game just for consistency. I'm fully aware of how 12th man duties work. My rant(s) about this season are fully justified, league tables dont lie. I'd be lying if I said I was looking forward to the T20.

Missed/avoided the point again, nobody is querying the season as a whole.

So in terms of the loanee question, you say:

Doesn't tally with what I want to see"

Then follow it straight up with:

"What I want to see is Durham doing well"

Which of course is what we all want, but if we've got no fit/quality bowlers, how are we going to do well? And if we've got no money, how are we going to buy in players that will make us do well? And if there aren't any players available out there who will come in and make us do well? How is there any other option at all than to try and get a lad or two in, who is keen to prove a point to his parent county on a short term loan deal that will ease the pressure on out limited bowling resources? Who in turn will hopefully do well for us.

Now Dixon was a failure, clearly, which is obviously why he hasn't been asked back and why Salisbury has now replaced him.

So surely - although I know you don't want to admit it - you have to agree that the attempt to loan players is the only viable option for Lewis and Durham CCC right now.

What good has David Harker ever done at Durham CCC by the way?

Like him or not, Jon Lewis lead us to a Championship in 2013. He must've done summit right.

David Harker helped bring the Ashes to Durham for example. As I've said I've answered the loanee question, I'd rather we developed our own players or looked at the NEPL. I personally don't believe loan is the only viable option at present. Has Dixon actually left? I've acknowledged Lewis has done some right at Durham. We shall see how Saturday goes.

Dixon's loan was for one month, signed on 10 May.

It was also put to you on the other thread that our own development players are absolutely nowhere near - with the exception maybe of Coughlin. As for the NEPL, there really isn't anyone out there who is banging the door down. So that considered and as bowlers don't just appear overnight, or over a two/three week period, loaning someone in is absolutely the only viable option for us right now.

We'll never know until we give them a go. Can't see Coughlin sticking around either. I'll stand by my opinion, develop from within the club or at a push locally.

I don't believe there is a local lad who could not have matched his record.

Ah, nice double negative there. Also a fantastic piece of hindsight that in real terms is irrelevant, because we'll never know will we? Would you have made that statement with such conviction on May 10 though?

The only thing that matters is that we desperately needed bowling reserves last month, we still do now and the club should be praised for facilitating deals which intend to achieve exactly that.

Did either have you moan when Cook and Markram were signed?? I know I didn't, I was very excited with their acquisitions. Yet hindsight shows us both were very poor?

Any WHED or Johnson can be wise after the event

Eh? You sure this was meant to me?

All I have ever wanted is to promote within, if we are going to lose I;d rather play local lads, I don't see the point in loaning players in for a month

I've been clear about this all season.

Unfortunately that's not how sport works though is it? It's a results business - the club made moves to bring someone in an attempt to improve their chances of winning cricket matches.

It didn't work, but I cannot fault the Club at all for atleast attempting to improve our threadbare squad.

Cook and Markram weren't contracted to other counties.

What the fuck has that got to do with the price of fish?

Precisely what I've said. We are developing other counties (rivals) players. Bringing in top international cricketers will be far more beneficial to our lads. Speaking to one of our top order batsman at a members night and he was thrilled he would have the chance to get advice off Makrham. I cant quite see that been the case with these loaners though and I've exhausted my views on that. We are obviously going to disagree which is fine both entitled to views.

Bringing in top international cricketers will be far more beneficial to our lads - no f***ing shit

However we cannot afford to bring in a top international bowler, so how do you suggest we get extra bowlers into the club to make up for the shortfall that means Carse, Potts, Weighell and McCarthy are unavailable this weekend?
