I genuinely used to think this, but after reading a superb article on how the Rooney rule changed American sport, my mind was changed that sometime equality needs a little push to get started.
I've no doubt people can give examples where it seems to have gone too far etc, but the principle is right and just.
With positive discrimination hopefully we will have genuine equality in a single lifetime. It's helps to rid the "ghettoism" of some occupations.
For the record I think the current issue is these youngsters don't have the anecdotes the old boys have/had on TMS, I enjoyed the patter much more than so called expertise.
They should stop trying to be experts, and become engaging and entertaining, they hopefully will as they stop feeling the need to prove themselves every show.

I recall the main characters dad in "American History X" feelings about positive discrimination.
My wife is like him and gets very bent out of shape about it, don't get her started on the MOBO's!

Totally agree.

Equality has to happen. Too many examples where women have been underpaid and overlooked in the workplace. And sports journalism has definitely suffered. Positive discrimination is sometimes necessary to fight the attitudes of men who undermine women.

Keen follower of the NFL so know all about the Rooney Rule.

It does have its limitations though, my argument however would be that talented black coaches in the NFL are very different to female commentators on the BBC/Sky.

Anyway, for a better look at egalitarianism in American Sport, do some research on Al Davis. There was a man who didn't need a rule to be fair and diverse.
 
Just watching Punter and Sanga talking the finer points of batting during a rain break. Women commentators can't hold a light to that. Each to their own. Woman cricketers for Women's cricket and men for men's. That's equality.
With pay related to viewing figures. That's also equality.

Confine yourself to your own field of expertise was my point. There's a tremendous difference in skill levels between top level men and women's cricket.
Punter and Sanga were discussing how they'd coped with swinging 90+ mph deliveries. No women cricketers have experienced that. They're perfectly well qualified to speak on experiences at the highest level that they've played. Top men's cricket is superior to top women's cricket imo. It you believe that's patronising so be it.

Thanks for clarification. Meg Lanning and Tammy Beaumont could definitely talk about how to deal with swing bowling...

And ask Adam Gilchrist who he rates as the best wicket keeper at the moment.

They certainly couldn't speak from experience how to play 90mph swing bowling.
Wicket keeping skills at the top level aren't really valued nowadays-perhaps the women's game is ahead of us in that department.

Obviously , I know they don’t face bowling of that speed - but the attitude that undermines womens ability , like some on here, is sexist and of a era of some years ago.

My 11 year old grandchild can't bowl 90 mph inswing but that doesn't mean I'm undermining his abiity. Stating facts isn't sexist nor is maintaining a view point that was prevalent decades ago.Live and let live and accept the fact that others may have a viewpoint different to yours is my mantra.

Have you read this thread in its entirety? Lots of poor comments and attitude.

Your original post stated women couldn’t discuss the finer points of batting. No mention of a 90mph swinging delivery.

Perfectly sensible questios, no problem with that at all. Just don't think she's quite as well qualified as Punter and Sanga to discuss on how to play 90+ mph swinging yorkers!!!
