Wouldn't be any outrage if it was a level playing field. Interestingly, what we're told these sort of 'inclusion' groups want is a level playing field - yet when there's an imbalance in their favour, they go strangely quiet.

Was it a level playing field 20 years ago? It wasn’t. More women now involved in sports journalism it seems. Which obviously goes against what you believe in.

Anyway - I’ve enjoyed listening to the ladies on radio and TV lately. Suppose you could always switch off.

No idea mate, I wasn't old enough to judge it.

Is it a level playing field or is it positive discrimination?

The lass on Sky has been canny like, good sense of humour, and knowledgable

I do like my commentators to have played to a very high standard mind

I really do hope it’s been positive discrimination - as you are fishing for. But I would argue women have always had skill sets. Tradition, upbringing and men’s attitudes have always withheld this. Having there been no women in top posts in sports journalism 25 years ago - something had to be done to ensure equality.

I find it astonishing that women in sports journalism is something you are against. Are you really so against women reporting on cricket?

I find it astonishing you think I'm against women in sports journalism. After everything I've said, you've drawn that conclusion?

If that's the case, there really is no point continuing to converse with you.

Who are you referring to?

I also remember the words you used to describe the writer at the Times newspaper. Scandalous that.

Yeah, yet it's still evident that she got that job for reasons OTHER than journalistic talent. Was it you that reported me like?

so there's more women than men now is there? cant say i've notcied that, guess they all sound git manly

I'm talking about the obvious imbalance in the recruitment process, but you're clever enough to have known that.

positive discrimination. to counter balance decades or centuries of discrimination. it's not always a good thing but i honestly don't see the massive problem you and a few others find here. to be honest other than nar nowt lizzy i've enjoyed hearing from the female commentators and players when they are on, and be fair there are plenty of awful trashy male commentators i'd switch over to avoid

Sorry like but it doesn't counter balance anything. Two wrongs don't make a right. Only way to truly have fairness and equality is to always pick the best candidate based on ability and knowledge. Simple as that.

In a single lifetime, you'd have genuine equality.

wonderfully idealistic but the pudding isn't exactly proving that to be true, and even if it were what about all the people in that lost generation?

The pudding isn't getting a chance is it? So it's a pointless debate.

Great group on Facebook called 'Specsavers County Championship Cricket'.

Debate ongoing now on a post about Johnners, about women commentators. Started by a self titled feminist talking about how shite the women commentators are. So, she's happy to talk about the elephant in the room, I suppose she's a misogynist too eh?

there was an asian lass on the cricket yesterday (very very bonny girl) who was great imo and spoke a lot of sense. Rather listen to her than Tufnell.

Told my daughter "There's your new mam, tell your current one to pack her bags".
Then I saw the wedding ring....

Yes, she seemed very knowledgeable when Nas let her get a word in.

I genuinely used to think this, but after reading a superb article on how the Rooney rule changed American sport, my mind was changed that sometime equality needs a little push to get started.
I've no doubt people can give examples where it seems to have gone too far etc, but the principle is right and just.
With positive discrimination hopefully we will have genuine equality in a single lifetime. It's helps to rid the "ghettoism" of some occupations.
For the record I think the current issue is these youngsters don't have the anecdotes the old boys have/had on TMS, I enjoyed the patter much more than so called expertise.
They should stop trying to be experts, and become engaging and entertaining, they hopefully will as they stop feeling the need to prove themselves every show.

I recall the main characters dad in "American History X" feelings about positive discrimination.
My wife is like him and gets very bent out of shape about it, don't get her started on the MOBO's!
But she is a tory.
