ALS Methven Interview

Just a little disappointed in you, your stance seems to have shifted because we are owned by people who were involved with your rivals.

I can’t win here. Hate Oxford with a passion but Sunderland FC is surely about the history and the fans. I don’t follow STFC because of the current owner, ironically someone who I dislike and played for you.

He can't grasp the fact that we don't give a toss about Swindon or Oxford and that our owners have moved on. I'm finished with him.

I don’t expect you to give a toss about the best club in the Country as you support Sundeland. Surely though living in Hartlepool you have a soft spot for them.
Lovely club.

He he we are in league 1 and we've still got the black and white cretins absolutely rattled to fuck man. Has there ever been a group of fans as insecure as them fuckwits. They prayed we were dead but deep down they know we will be back to kick their arses again soon.

You could be in the conference. Rivalry is forever.
Anyway I reckon you will go up this season. I hope so.

Well you should. Whether he believes it or was just saying it to get you lot on his side, it's not appropriate for someone in a responsible position at a football club to be coming out with in public.

Your players mouth off about us frequently and you all lap it up

Strange that some of the Oxford fans seem unsure about Methven. Not too sure what the issue was there but from everything I've seen and heard of him since coming to SAFC he seems very impressive. Obviously we need it backed up by results on the pitch in time but he's started as well as we could hope.

Also love how the two of them never thought they'd end up owning a club this big. I was thinking the other day that they must just walk onto the SoL pitch and think "fuck me, we own this!". Massive challenge for them but at least we know they're driven, determined to make a success of it and will be open with the fans even if things go badly at any stage. The timing of our drop into league one has worked out very well for them, and we desperately needed owners with access to funds but who also appreciate the need to genuinely reconnect with the fans and give us a reason to believe again. Don't believe in fate, and in true SAFC fashion it might all go to shit, but I think this is going to be a pretty exciting ride
Spot on mate.

the professional committee members in all these liaison and fan groups will be getting moist with the hint of a fan on the board , if he walks as good as he talks its onwards and upwards for us

Surely you must have realised how prickly these lot are. Say something nice and they are pleasant. Say something they don't like and the wagons form a circle.

Third time I’ve checked in here since the takeover, and I'm not at all surprised this ‘tweet’ has happened. Without boring you for too long with OUFC politics, the guy quoted is called Jeremy Faulkner.

Methven was very anti Firoz Kassam, who went on to asset strip the club whereas Faulkner jas been very pro Kassam in the press despite most oxford fans seeing Kassam as the devil incarnate.

Basically, he and his group of mates are bitter that Charlie was proved right and they couldn't get a deal done with Kassam.

They also thought that they could get SD to buy our shocking stadium from Kassam for a fortune, so kissed his ass for a while but SD told them the price was ridiculous.

Its embarrassing that these people are now trying to pick holes in the Sunderland situation – and talking bollocks too. Whatever you think of Charlie was on the committee of the supporters trust, was the trustee of our youth foundation, started the yellow army and worked hard with the Lenagans to revive us and Donald funded and sponsored us back up the leagues.

They could hardly have been more involved in OUFC over the last 10 years without owning the club…. And they even tried to do that twice as well.

I’ve known all these people for donkeys years and whilst I have had some stand-up rows with CM and SD over the last 20 years I’ve got more time for them than Kassam’s anyone who's mates with Kassam or whoever owns Oxford! .

Faulkner by the way lives in your neck of the woods these days and has been to games at the Riverside and knows Steve Gibson. I wouldn’t bother you with all this, but they’ll find their way on here in the end so this is advance warning of the facts. Sadly it just is all rather petty and bitter. I'd hope people at oxford would be more focused on oxford rather than taking shots at people who put their own time and money into helping our club move back up the leagues.

There's a lot in that interview that strikes a chord with me but this more than the rest:

But with that, it’s a results-based industry so they want to see results.
It’s partially results-based! And it’s partially other things as well. But it’s lazy to say that it’s all about results. Results make a big difference, but on the margin, other things make a big difference as well.

I go to the match wanting to see the players give a shit - win, lose or draw. We've applauded the lads off the pitch after a hammering because they gave everything they've got. Besides, you buy a ticket to see a football match - nobody's guaranteeing a win.
