TEST MATCH :: England v Pakistan

There need to be big changes after this.

For me, Bayliss/Farbace need to go as test coaches. But that'll never happen this side of the world cup. There still needs to be blood on the coaching side though to demonstrate this is unacceptable and shake the whole set-up up. Therefore, I think Ramprakash should go: he has to carry the can for what's happening on the batting side.

Would also get rid of Stoneman and Malan, would bring in Clarke and Jennings. Heads must roll.

Why Ramprakash, I'm not defending him but the only people to blame for a poor batting display are the batsmen themselves, I would ask the question as to why we even need a batting coach, what do they do?

Rather like the football team I long since gave up getting worked up about the England cricket team...my only suprise is that they managed to get past lunch on the 3rd day.

4th Day refunds again eh chaps??

I agree to a certain extent. Ramprakash certainly isn’t earning his money mind

I really think they need like Andy Flower back in charge or someone like that

Never got the Bayliss appointment, maybe they needed like a year to relax and enjoy their cricket after the last flower regime got intense, but its international cricket, it just seems too easy ride for them

I maintain that Bairstow and Root should not be at 3 and 5 though, its making it worse

Because the batting has been shit for ages.

I think they're being told to "bat positively" to play "attacking cricket". I'd sack the entire set-up tbh, but Ramprakash is a big part of it.

Agree to a certain extent here. They've lost all element of toughness. They certainly need a character like that - and someone who isn't afraid to be attritional when that's what's required.

Feel for Buttler here.

He wouldn't have been my choice but in this situation there is no way (realistically) that he can win. So, if he's out soon I won't be on his back.

Having said that, sadly I think Ricky has run out of road. Probably the solution lies in a new no 3 as well and a new opener.

Maybe/probably Stokes should have returned from the IPL sooner to play CC.
Probably England should have had a practise match against a County side and they would have been better for it - but there are obvious difficulties there.

Maybe some thought should go into why Pakistan bowlers were more potent than Broad and Anderson - both have had plenty cricket in the CC already, they should have been ready.

Thing is with cricket, happens all the time, at the end of one regime, you go for the opposite, So you go from tough, to relaxed.

It works very well in white ball no doubt, but it just hasn't worked at test arena.

As @smoker pointed out rightly, players coming into the team aren't adapting or getting better, that isn't a coincidence. Can't blame it all on bayliss, but its the culture of him, his staff and his captain.

We need to do something, whether its coach or captain. You are right, we need to get tougher.

However I do think we will get better this summer, we look ridiculously rusty, where Pakistan have obviously played 3 or 4 games as a team

Think Broad was unlucky tbh, bowled very well for little reward. Wood bowled alright too. Not sure he's the type of bowler that adds variety to the attack - but he put a good effort in, certainly. Anderson bowled too short and Bess doesn't turn it anywhere near enough - really odd selection, for me, not that its made any difference on the match. Would have plumped for the teenager at Surrey - he's been pulling up trees, whereas Bess has what is it? One wicket?

Overall though, the bowlers were unlucky - Pakistan rode their luck at times, and they were let down by some very poor fielding. Also: scoreboard pressure. Also also: Root fucked up the toss, massively. He says he thought it would dry out - but was he expecting young Bess to rattle through them in fourth innings? That's never going to be the way we win matches here...

England are a 6/10 team bowling wise. Difficult to really attack that when they're 2/10 - and that's generous - on the other side of the ball.
