I've supported from afar for the last few years, pedigree brings big egos, stupid expectations, big wages, players here for the dosh, sound familiar, it eventually leads to disaster as you're spending more than you can afford, usually league 1 or 2 before reality kicks in, I'd rather the reality kicks in in league 1, there comes a time when you have to wake up and smell the coffee, I'm happy those off the park can smell it, time for some in the stands to take a big deep breath and get onboard.

It doesn't really matter what level you think the Scottish Chamionship is, there are good players and managers at every level, you just need the eyes to find them and the baws to go and get them.

I agree.

If he were taking over at Bradford or any other league one club would your thoughts be the same?

Erm no probably not. Would have said it's a good opportunity for him. I remember Hartlepool taking a manager doing class in the Scottish lower leagues and then they went down (from league 1).

Sounds terrible from me and i'm genuinely not trying to be controversial but was hoping for a big name or a manager with pedigree in England. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone in the same way it was for Keane under Drummerville . Obviously the squad badly needs a defence but going forward there will be easily enough quality to help win the league (should he keep the likes of McNair/Gooch/Asoro then Watmore will be coming back).

I really like what I've read/heard him say regards his approach to games and tactics. In one of the videos, he says footballers with pace is vital to any team of his......well that's music to my f***ing ears. I think next season is going to be very enjoyable.
pace, power and skill mate. We have had very little of any in recent years. skill you pay for but we desperately need some pace and power.

A big name: Moyes, Coleman.
Someone in England with pedigree below the premier league: Grayson.

All were shite and failed.

Just IMO btw.

Yeah I know that but just think it's an unnecessary risk. We should win the league regardless looking at the standard of players going forward and the budget on offer + the feelgood factor

Yep, 100%. We went to Celtic Park in the cup last season and went hell-for-leather. We held a lead for most the game, ended up getting battered, but he'd rather go all guns blazing than try to shitfest his way to a point.
So Sunderland will be the only team in the North East of England that plays attacking football next season.

From the outside looking in, you seem to have had plenty of managers with 'pedigree' over the last few years. How's that worked out for you?

Yeah I know but different leadership. When we brought Keane in under Drummerville it was different. Had the feel good factor, the big name and big budget (comparatively) was attracting the players and it took us to the title.

I'm not writing Ross off and I think we'll probably win the league but at the same time im really not sold on the success in the Scottish lower leagues transferring over the border

Failed under a different leadership where the club was on its knees behind the scenes.
That's fair dos mate. Personally just pleased that we've cleared the decks off the field, and gone for something a bit different off it. I'd have been less enthused had we gone back for someone like say, Mick McCarthy.

Yeah 100% and I'm genuinely excited for the season. Like I say it's a fantastic opportunity for anyone with the feelgood atmosphere that will exist, some of the players already there & the budget.

Just don't think success in Scotland is a particularly good measuring stick.

Personally I don't think it's all about winning the league this season, like many other clubs past and present, there's something wrong at the SOL, it needs gutted from top to bottom, if it takes him most of this season to get it the way he wants it fair enough, I'll take that for the long term good, if he hits the ground running and does what I think he can this place will be f***ing bouncing like it hasn't for decades.

And if he's a big fat failure I'll hold my hands up, like the players he likes, I'm not a shirker.

Got to be about promotion at least this season?

Fair enough. When we took him on, he'd only managed part-time teams. We only had four points by late December but we survived on the last day. This season, we've utterly strolled the league (we were crowned league champions before Celtic, Wolves and Man City...) - easily beating Dundee United who had a budget way in excess of ours.

I guess just back him and see where it gets you. If it's not working out by November you can bin him and get a big name in. ;)
