I sent a text to a mate in Edinburgh who’s a big Hearts fan and was part of the “Foundation of Hearts” what he knew of Jack Ross. This was his reply:
Hi pal, Garry here hope you are having a great holiday, Jack Ross was the youth coach at Hearts and he was earmarked to take over from Robbie Nielson, however there was a disagreement with him and the director of football, he's now went on to do the impossible!!! He took St Mirren from the bottom of the championship to the league title in a season. Very passionate!!! in the early days at St Mirren he was known to argue with fans behind the dugout, we missed out on him and if you give him time he will be great for Sunderland. He will need time though as I think it's a big step up, Sunderland are a premier team playing in the first and fans expectations may not give him the time to settle in . Enjoy pal. Love to all
