Myself and many others weren't born in Sunderland. I was born in County Durham and support the club because my mother brain washed me as a kid (thank fuck). Like I said and you haven't answered, if all clubs are the same then there is nothing to differentiate one from another. I for one think this is bollocks.

Well okay, you support them because your folks did. Nowt to do with what each club represents.

Every club isn't exact the same, they have different history, different fan bases, geographical location etc. None of that comes into play when determining who you support (I'm obviously aware some are glory hunters, but that's nowt to do with what a club is about except winning trophies).

OK you are obviously intent in the belief that all clubs are the same. Are all pubs the same, all houses the same, all people the same? You must live in a very boring world.

This. It is fair to say some clubs fans differ from others. I'd say some clubs have more vociferous fans. For example, despite their successes Chelsea have never had a vocal support like Manchester Utd. And never will (there seem to be a North and south divide when it comes to atmospheres I find). However, what fans want doesn't differ.

No, all pubs are not the same. But guess what? My local, as in the pub I tend to frequent most regularly, is the one on my doorstep. I don't think ya know what, that pub in London was right up my street, I'm going to pop down the smoke every other day for a pint and fuck the local pubs off

What is a contradiction?

All clubs supporters want their team to win football matches and strive to compete at the highest level possible (those levels are relative).

Apparently the fans of Newcastle "love a good number 9". Every time I hear this I think "whereas other clubs supporters f***ing hate a good striker that scores goals".

Similarly there's bullshit trotted out about Sunderland as well.... "They love a good trier" being one of them.

This. The mags get that tag because of their "famous number 9" patter. And aye, cos some fans love a player who doesn't give a fuck... you also hear that our fans will forgive anything as long as you give 100%. Nah if your 100% is shite you'll soon know about it.

Yes and however much we might dislike it the above is part of our respective culture's. I still say it is bullshit to say all clubs and fans are the same, it is way too simplistic a standpoint.

It's not though, as others have also said, the lines trotted out are proven to be bullshit on a match day. If you give your best, and your best is shite, you will get pelters.

You will need to give examples of clubs where what fans want is different marra. I reckon all want (relative) success with a team who of good players who give their all.

Why do you keep ignoring me saying all clubs are not the same?

What fans want isn't different though, nor is how fans decide who to support.

You proved it by stating you support us cos your folks told you to. Do you actually think most fans sit down and make an educated choice about who they support, based on what each club represents?

You still haven't given any examples of where what fans want is different. If you can, then I'd be interested and open to the suggestion.
