or is it?

i was bored at the weekend so had a drive around grangetown and the sea road area and some shops have queues out the door.

sell a quality product at the right price and people will lap it up. the internet is handy for books and insurance quotes but thats about it.
Still a 100 200+billion quid spend that grows every year

Cost is the challenge

If we’re talking Durham, the only place on planet earth where the only city centre McDonalds closes and a bank opens in its place.

I’m still baffled to this day.

Love Durham mind.

I think we’re entering a new era, one where the independents thrive and shite like Cafe Rouge and Pret disappear.

Agree about the independents there

I’d say McDonalds closing is a Great Leap Forward in progress.

Well done Dan. Any shops in particular from these two local shopping areas which were doing particularly well?

sea Rd was on its arse Kev before Stirks butchers and Liking Cantonese takeway opened up .

High streets and town centres are all about leisure nowadays. All the good shops are generally out of town

That is down to cost
75k-150k per annum to rent a unit in the bridges.
50k-100k per annum to rent a unit on a retail park
24k + per annum to rent a warehouse unit

No wonder the High Street is dead, shops will have to make 500k+ a year to cover there costs, Internet retailers can get away with making a lot less to cover their costs

It’s a ballache when clothes arrive and don’t fit. I’m a fussy twat as well, so when shelling out good money for gear I like to get the best one on the rack.

Get some things online, but I prefer going to the town.
