Save Seaburn

Slightly off topic but I worked on a project in Southwick last year and the amount of time wasted about what was and wasn't Southwick was unreal.
Tell me about it
I was dragged up on Southwick Rd near the Tavern and always said I was from Southwick but I think it's Monkwearmouth from about the Halfway house down over

Tell me where it was and I’ll clear it up for you:)
It would only matter if
A You lived somewhere and didn't like inferior folk saying they lived there too
B You're the inferior bloke wishing you lived two streets up
Everyone else doesn't really care

You think it's that simple?;)
Fulwell Mill for instance is in the political ward of Southwick but is considered as Fulwell by the majority of people of both Southwick and Fulwell.
That's just one obvious example, it got a lot more complex and people got very angry. Even the naming of the group was called into question with one person insisting that if things like Fulwell Mill were referenced, rather than calling it something like 'Southwick Message Board' it would have to be called 'Political Ward of Southwick Message Board'.
Easy. Fulwell mill and the estate in front are classed as Fulwell grange. This goes up to the duck( cricket club) then turns in to southwick. Likewise on the other side of the road, the grange pub and the houses on that side down to Thompson’s Park are Fulwell grange too. That turns in to monkwearmouth on the other side of the park to the south and southwick to the east.

You'd think so wouldn't you?

Run up to the election though.

I like roker park to be fair, not sure on the green slime in the pond (if it’s still there like been a while since I was in). And obviously since they got rid of the sex offender who drove the train.
Oh and the toilets (forgot about them). Are they still used for the owld you know whatties?

As in cruising spot ? It was when I was back over last September. And still listed as one of about a dozen local Sunderland cruising spots. The Roker Park gents have a rating of three out of five stars on a cruising website.

Ffs the park is a place for families and walking the dog etc.
Not for meeting some strange geezer and bending him over the hedge.

I did see that when I googled roker park toilets but thought I better not mention it.

Does happen in backhouse.
It probably does.

Really? That's so grim

I went there a couple of times but never met a single soul.

The gents not the park itself.

Edit : I just had a look at the crusing website. There are thirteen spots listed in Sunderland. Two get the maximum five stars (the gents in Wilkinsons and Joplins). I would say, despite their ratings, that Roker Park gents sound more innocent than those two.
