Who was it? Benitez approached Newcastle about the role, dealt with Charnley, was signed off on by Ashley.
It's not like Ashley's scoured the planet looking for the right man and then convinced him to join us. This is the same bloke who signed off on Keegan, Kinnear, Shearer, Hughton, Pardew, Carver and McClaren.

He could have said no and appointed someone on a massively inferior wage to what Benitez is on or a bloke who wouldn't rock the boat like another Pardew and be happy to go along with it if Ashley gave him no money.

Bit odd that you can't give him credit for it.

She's been dead 32 years.
Explains the smell.
Again, I'm sorry. Sorry for your loss.

I give him credit for not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

I like it when, after a win, he calmly folds up his glasses and pops them in his top pocket. A silent message; Job done.

Dreamy.
sounds similar to when Di Canio used to straighten his tie after barking instructions, or the length of Keano's beard based on how results were going

no but i daresay that Benitez is on more money than Stevie Mac was. He signed off on that, and also gave him the money to assemble the team he has.

So you give him credit for having ambition and appointing a good manager? Glad that's cleared up.
It's not ambition. Almost Ashley's entire tenure at Newcastle has been bereft of ambition.

He did pay for Benitez, that's true, but it's still not creditworthy. He didn't seek out, court and convince Benitez to join. He probably couldn't believe his luck. A manager of that calibre wanting to join a relegation scrap.

He's still not exactly giving Benitez what you would call his full backing, now is he?

What has he actually done that Sam Allardyce or a similar manager could have done for them?

If he’s that shit why is everyone on here desperate for him to leave the Mags and why are a number of clubs interested in having him as manager?

Allardyce was there and while he fit here, he didn’t fit at the Landfill.....and Everton have the same mindset.

I live to call the FSW at every opportunity but I get the impression he has engaged with their fan base well and you cannot knock his pedigree.

When he gets on with managing he's more than half decent. When he opens his mouth, invariably to moan about something he detracts from his managerial achievements which are notable. pre-Mag reign.
He had a Keegan-like meltdown at Liverpool when they should have won the league and he did alright at Chelsea as a stop gap.
Gets a bit boring the way some people go on about him on here.

I think it's more than that this time tbh.

West Ham have cleared the decks by sacking Moyes and his entire staff .... Benitez has already started the whinging about money problems at Newcastle.

The way this has broken makes me believe it's come from West Ham.

Ive no doubt they want him.the media are all over it so someone has put it out there. Be a bit gutted to see him go , he genuinely wants us to buy some quality now to help the squad which i believe he will get but its how much he has in mind that is the problem, Ashley forced Benitez to make us better and he has so in that sense im with Ashley but in the PL you stand still at your peril. That is Benitez's point and there lies the interesting issue.

I very much think its touch n go.

Not gonna read all the thread so soz if SEB. Embarrassing to call him poo poo. Even more embarrassing to not give him credit for what he has done with them this year. We can't have it both ways, we have them shit about him when he relegated them but after our respective seasons we can't take piss out of the best thing they have going for them.

Why are you making a thread about him man? :D

He's done a good job. Anyone who says otherwise is just being a bell end. Sam took them backwards, he's taken them forwards. Hope he fucks off asap and we can see them shit the bed with lots of open letters to Mike Ashley.

Only written on bedsheets.
Sam took them backwards? They finished 13th season before he arrived and were 11th when sacked!

As I pointed out to the "mag at work" today, their best three players this season have probably been Lascelles, Shelvey and Perez. The thing that connects them? None of them benitez signings.

Is it bollocks. This is just mischief making by some mackems who are desperate to 'save' their season by us suffering a backward step. It's just like their HMRC drivel.

They can see that we are on the brink of really improving and they are desperate to undermine that.

Imagine how shitty their world will be next season should we move onwards and they can't get out of the third tier.

It may or may not be true but I’m not sure it’s a few Mackems mischief making, I’m not sure we quite have the power to control Sky and the press

It’d just a few of us mischief making man :)
