The debt existed prior to his arrival. That should have been erased with the new TV deals though. No doubt the club has been financially mismanaged. There are no winners from Short's mistakes in appointing awful people at the top of the club or from his lack of a clear idea on what he wanted the club to be. He certainly hasn't won; lost a fortune, unpopular with supporters and nothing to show for his decade of involvement at the club. Its a fairly sorry tale

Takeovers of this magnitude are very difficult to put together. It also sounds like he really was waiting for the right owners and if he has turned away deals to get these guys in as he thinks it will be best for the club then fair play to him as it will have cost him more money to wait

His decisions also took us to Wembley and now if we really are debt free we can rebuild which we have needed to do for years and years not just the past 2 seasons

Like I've said in other threads, I'm going to be looking for documents at Companies House showing that the security for the loan has been released. That will indicate if the SBC debt has been paid off.

There was a charge registered this week - mentioning £85m debt from 2014 and an agreement with Story Homes Mortgages and the proceeds of sale will be paid to SBC

That was SBC covering their backsides to follow the money if they needed to. It was more a modification of their existing security than anything else. I'm not sure that sale has gone through yet.

It's how you run the club while you are there is what you should be judged on imo, I'm both surprised and over the moon with his parting gesture but if he'd surrounded himself with more competent people in the first place it wouldn't have come to this.

Probably not due to FFP but changing owners allows him to take that debt away. From the statement I say fair play to the bloke. Despite a horrendous tenure I always thought he had the club at heart. The fact it looks like he’s turned down offers better for him for a one better for the club says a lot about them man.

Arguably we are in a better position than when he took over the club, as we had unserviceable debt at that point hence why he got involved
