Unless we get an extremely wealthy buyer there's only one way I am afraid. It's the fans that suffer. Utter misery. If no sale happens this summer we may as well fold the club. We will fall into league 2. For all I love Quinny and he thought he was doing the right thing he's sold us to a cold hearted man who thinks of only himself. A businessman who knows nothing about football.

Hi Paul

Been saying for ages that the trouble is that whoever buys us will need to have a lot of funds due to the money we've been losing just to ensure they can cover losses never mind the fact we need to invest something in the side (albeit not a huge sum in league one). Some have been saying they don't need money, they just need to know how to run a club but it isn't that simple

Any buyers will need to invest between 30-40m. On top of that, you have Short’s asking price.

I’m now firmly of the opinion that unless Short agrees to support the club - which apparently he isn’t - we are fucked for a number of years

I'm not quite that downbeat. Even without a sale, as long as Short continues to fund the running of the club which he currently is committed to, there's no reason why we should drop into league two. We will keep most of our academy players (Asoro might go) and they will be good at that level; Gooch and Honeyman have been okay at this level, Maja should offer something, we've got others near the team as well who should hold their own. No one spends money in that league so we should be able to get a competitive side together even if Short says the budget is next to nothing. If we can get the high wage earners gone we'll be able to attract good players for that level as our wage budget will be significantly higher than anyone elses. There is no excuse for failing in that league even with financial constraints

Best option is for us to sell to someone with funds and ambition of course but to be honest keeping Short will likely be a safer option for now than selling to people without significant funds.

It’s worth remembering, we are actually owned by an extremely wealthy person, who could easily get us out of this mess.

We honestly think Short is going to keep funding the running of the club till a buyer is found. He's proven he doesn't give a sh1t about the club. Whatever he's doing he's doing for his own gains to sell the club at a point when he loses the least money. (prob when all the parachute payments are gone)

Sunderland. Problem is the ongoing costs. That’s on top of any money paid to Short. Local group wanted to manage it and then take over. Looked possible at one point. Now not so much. Short wants guaranteed exit ASAP. Just don’t see this being sorted fast myself.

Nixon is absolutely full of shite. He's guessing based on what Bain said in his interview.

Spot on mate.

I agree anyone buying the club needs to have significant funds to make a difference...otherwise what's the point. I disagree that staying with Short will do anything other than demoralise the club further. Going into the third division will require a bit more than Gooch,Honeyman and Maja to succeed and to say there's no excuse for failure in that division under our current financial mess is tempting fate. All Short has agreed to do is to meet the shortfall of running costs over income, there's no suggestion he's going to spend any of the savings we might make from getting rid of our dross players on anything other than paying off debt.
