Unfortunately this, good luck to them though.

I say this as somebody who worked at a very high level in broadcasting for 15 years.

Broadcasters here tend to be at the start of their careers - they then move to the bigger cities. C4 will not want to run a broadcasting centre full of kids.

And in all honesty, the North East is not multicultural enough nor is it open minded enough. You get that in the bigger cities...Manchester being the best example outside of London.

Why could it not cope? If people are being paid they'd go.
Could use the same argument as that for Cardiff

They wouldn't.

Why would you work for C4 in Newcastle when if you're at that level you could work in London.

Cardiff is the Capital city of Wales - not a back water in the North of England.

The spokesman is trying to sell the bid. He's not gonna come on and say "in Europe people have probably only heard of the place because they watch the premier league, and round the world they might have heard of Newcastle brown ale or maybe from watching the premier league, otherwise they've likely not heard of us, and definitely haven't heard of gateshead"
I bet you're top crack on a night out

Newcastle and Gateshead will shoot themselves in the foot anyway with their councils not aligning for NE devolution.

This is the big sticking point, the rift in the NECA. North of Tyne Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland will leave behind the South of Tyne councils Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and Durham

Newcastle and Gateshead in Channel 4 bid

Newcastle & Gateshead "bidding" to get a Channel 4 hub located in their cities

"Tyneside was the "UK's unofficial capital of culture" and a "vibrant creative community... at the heart of modern Britain"

"There are a number of cityscapes around the world that are instantly recognisable - Shanghai, Sydney Harbour, New York - and Newcastle and Gateshead is right up there."

Stretching it a bit I feel, why do they have to "bid" for it? How much do they have to pay Channel 4?

The fuck.....

This would benefit the whole north east. The tyne bridge etc are very recognisable.
Bit wide of the mark calling them deluded whilst trying to benefit the area.
I'd guess most people in the uk would recognise the the tyne bridges and the angel of the north.

I still find it unusual that people park up to go and actually look at it

this tbf. i remember when i was in Manhattan strolling down 5th Ave and thinking to myself, this is definitely comparable to walking down Grainger Street:rolleyes::lol::lol:

I think you might be correct, and I was trying to think of other very recognisable landmarks in the cities who are also bidding. The liver building in liverpool, can't think of any for Birmingham really, Glasgow riverside with the crane etc, Cardiff - nowt comes to mind.
Obviously the bid isn't just about having well known landmarks though, but I'd imagine the cityscape will feature often, like Salford Quays does now all the time now the BBC relocated to media city

I get a train into New Street from the south quite often. The last couple of miles to the station from that direction has got to be the grimmest in the country.

That would be great if they came out with that:lol:

C4 will move to Liverpool, Glasgow and one other place IMO.

Probably Cardiff.

Newcastle and Gateshead could not cope running a national broadcasting service from there - people won't move here and we do not have the talent in the NE to do it.

That's horse shit by the way - the North East is a technology hotbed in the UK. There are hundreds of tech companies here...many of which are globally rcognised. For example Ubisoft Reflections have been based here for decades - produced games like Destruction Derby and the Driver series which shifted millions of copies. Then you have WhatCulture which has a huge reach across the globe with their content. Hedgehog Lab is a mobile app company based in Newcastle that develops apps for companies like Channel 4, Mitsubishi and are currently doing something with the NFL I believe. That's just three off the top of my head. Your comment is so wide of the mark and is disrespectful to the thousands of tech guys and gals that are doing some mint stuff for clients all over the world.

I work in tech mate.

Generally the stuff the tech industry does isn't newsworthy - outside of a couple of headline grabbers.

There are 100s of tech companies in Manchester too.

It's not wide of the mark at all.
