It’s been said on here. I’ve always e argued he did a good job but suffered from being associated with Ashley. I maintain that Benitez won’t do as well as Pardew but will be far more fondly thought of. In fairness Rafa is doing very good job and better than I expected. I didn’t think you’s would go down but thought it would be nip and tuck. Hats off to the bloke.
I think a lot of the problem fans had with Pards is he was always seen as a yes man to Ashley. When the get rid of pardew crowd started to grow I always argued against it as my point was always Ashley is the problem not Pards. I thought he did pretty well for us for much of the time he was there but in the end after that long abysmal run I also wanted him gone.
That said at the end he started to turn it round and started to pull some results together.

For a good chunk of the season I had huge worries we would be going down but he turned it round. I think he has done really well this season both in terms of getting us to safety and the way he has brought some of the players on a really improved them.

i'd agree with that last statement. every year you have teams who've spent a decent wedge coming back down, even if they've only been up for 1 season, and have parachute payments to hold onto players. its only if they get stuck down there for 4 or 5 years that they have to trim their squad costs down. looks like stoke, southampton and brom are coming down, who've been up there for 10 years or so and spent a lot on their squads. there's not that much difference between the bottom half and the top 6 or so in the champ.

I would agree with that.
Then you have a huge gulf to the have nots.

I think in the next few years you are going to see a premier league top 10 in which they start the season knowing they are not going to go down.
then you are going to have the bottom 10 premier sides and the top 10 championship sides who are fairly close in terms of quality.
Then there will be a huge gulf to the rest.
I think it's important for you as a club to get a new owner and get competing at the top half of the championship ASAP or you could be a long time in the wilderness. Not saying that as a wind up just how I genuinely see things going over the next few years.

there's been a top 6, plus everton, then the bottom 13 for years. a very good season you can break into the top 6, a poor season you go down (even everton arent out of that i dont think). southampton, west ham and others have flirted with the top 7 in the last couple of years and have a bad season this one and might go down. then theres the once in a generation miracle of leicester where everything went right for them and wrong for all the other top 6, they couldnt maintain top 6 for more than one season. burnley will be struggling again in a couple of years and probably go down within 5. we are going to be in the wilderness for years unless we get an owner who can invest slowly and improve us consistently for 4/5 years.

I would agree with that but i think it will change slightly over the next few years. The top four for sure is going to almost impossible to break into, the top six hard apart from when someone like arsenal or spurs has a bad season.
What I think you will get is a top ten though, consisting of your top six sharing the top 4 spots between them then another 4 teams sniffing round them waiting for one of the top six to have a bad season.
They will be teams like Everton, Wolves maybe Newcastle if we got the right buyer. After that though billionaires will stop buying into it as the very least they want for the money is security of survival, they won't invest the amount they need to keep them in the premier if it only gets them a relegation battle.

What give you that idea about a top 10? And Wolves? Why them?
Yourselves and QPR have both spent £60M + in single seasons and subsequently got relegated. It's always been the top 6 and Everton, the only other team I would say are pretty safe before the start of next season would be Leicester

To be fair, I didn't understand how we got the points we did that season, a lot of our play was shite
Krul playing out of his skin and both Cissee and Ba in the form of their lives.

We had just under 8,000 when we played Norwich i remember, drew 2-2, we were already relegated, then we played Millwall 1st away game next season and took loads down there, anyway as for Arsenal being the worst Arsenal side for ages, aren't they going to win a European Trophy?
  Fuck off did ya.

How does that even compare ya gonk? One is at least based on quantitative data even if it doesn't quite reflect the true attendance, whereas the other is a bare faced lie.

Gerroutofit man. You were claiming those figures when it was blatantly obvious that no more than 1 seat in 30 was occupied

Another gormless fat fucktard to hoy on ignore

Attendance figures are tickets sold - everybody knows that. We know the true attendance is down. Claiming you took 8,000 to Norwich away is absolutely laughable.

Not arguing with that, the point I'm making is anyone can fuck with the figures when it suits them...... including yourselves. If yer going to throw mud, watch where it sticks

I know how its been I am talking about what I believe will be in the future.

There are billionaires that want to get in on the premiership. Before they spend a load of money the very least they will expect is to be secure in the premier league and relegation not being an issue.
This means there will be more big spenders coming in, I think wolves will be one of them. These billionaires will keep coming in until you get to a tipping point in which there are so many of them that another coming in won't be able to guarantee survival even with their investment at which point they will stop buying into it. I believe that tipping point to be about 10 teams.

At present you have a top six, i think everton make up one of the next four seats, I think wolves could take another, I think Leicester will drop away over several seasons, that leaves two spots left. Enough room for another two clubs to get in on the act and then there will be a top ten and the next ten will be in a relegation battle every season.

Just what I think will happen mind, I'm not posting this as fact

I get your thinking I just can't see it myself. With FFP as it is surely these billionaires know it's impossible to break the top 6 so what's the aim for them? Perhaps that boats sailed. I think Moshiri at Everton is going to learn that the hard way. I dont think Wolves will spend anything like the figures they're expecting unless Neves leaves for a canny fee.
The premier league is f***ing mint to watch but it's a shame that no club outside the top 6 have a chance of breaking it regularly, perhaps something will change in a few years. A few billionaires leaving the league rather than joining it could be that change!

Maybe, I think Eventually ManU, Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea will fuck off into a European super league at some point.

He wasnt claiming we took 8,000 to Norwich......we were at home

I wouldn't be against it
The European super league would get all the cash like the premier league money would fall through the floor, would wreck one or two clubs.
Would make for a more entertaining premier league and much more level playing field.

If it did happen you'd think that the "super league" would have to offer some type of parachute payments type structure to the premier league, la liga etc.

Not sure how it would work, wouldn't surprise me if it was a closed shop with no relegation.

it would be brilliant for english footy, from mid premier league all the way down to grass roots, including the england team and english players in general. it certainly would be better for the fans. the quicker the 'premier league' brand loses its appeal, the quicker we can begin to move back to it being a sport
