New Music Releases Thread

So, because I'm very taken with them, I'll p0st a Rheingans Sisters video. Saw them at Cambridge Folk Festival last year and for two songs I was a bit ho-hum then they played a song called "The Forest" and I was a bit "Woooo! That be good.". They obviously don't fit the male late 20s to early 3os indie rock thing that most of the thread does but they're really quite brilliant and worth some sort of nudge toward the mainstream:

The Voidz are Julian Casablancas' other band. And, you must have heard of DeadMau5? Wears a metallic mouse head and plays house/trance type stuff. Had a couple of hits, I think. En Vogue are 90s R&B divas who were well known 20+ years ago, probably before your time. Neither of the last two interest me but they're names I know.

Of the rest, I'm tending towards the stuff from Cabbage onward in the list. I keep an Amazon list of stuff I'm interested in as a reminder and they're all from that (everything else is culled from Metacritic). Frankie Cosmos is from both - low fi American indie girl pop.

Oh yeah I've heard of a few of them, just never listened to any of them. I shall give Frankie Cosmos a listen on your recommendation. Seems to be getting a few early good reviews.

For those of you of a heavy rock/punk persuasion, I’ve just discovered that Zeke have released their first album in 14 years today!

In proper Zeke fashion it’s 15 songs in 20 minutes.

Amen dunes is a superb album. A fantastic body of work.
That and Hookworms best album of the year so far for me.

It is indeed tremendous. Other new stuff I've listened to:

Haley Heynderickx - low fi, a bit Sufjan at times. The centrepiece, "Worth It", is particularly excellent.
Cabbage - it's Cabbage, it's entertaining, doesn't break new ground.
Dead Meadow - could kind of say the same thing. They're Dead Meadow, they do stoner rock, they do it very well!
FACS - industrial rock. Good. Not sure it's an album I'd go back to loads.
Trembling Bells - folk rock with more emphasis on the rock than the folk. Very good!
Frankie Cosmos - entertaining. Lots of very short tracks.

Not quite new is the EP "American Flowers" by Birds of Chicago. It came out last year and is out takes from the sessions for their upcoming album. Folk, blues, country, male/female harmonies. Reminds me of both Hurray for the Riff Raff and Hiss Golden Messenger.

Looking forward to Daniel Avery, looks like another in a long line of excellent electronic releases this year.
I’ll check out unknown mortal orchestra but wasn’t impressed with lead single.
Maniac will get a spin for old times sake.

Eels, Wye Oak, Daniel Avery and UMO for me. And Hop Along

Looks like Manics album is next week. It’s bound to be shit

Eels always makes me think of my mate that died this year. He had Beautiful Freak when we were at school and was the reason I first heard them. That’s onviously on my list for today, probably Hinds and Wye Oak for me.

Apple Music usually throws up a surprise suggestion for me when it finally updates the tailored new release suggestions mid-morning too.

Ah, Metacritic listed it for today.

Not on metacritic list is debut album from MIEN, a band comprised of members from Black Angels, the Horrors etc. Sure to appeal to fans of psyche, drone, shoegaze etc. The two lead singles were decent.

The 'supergroup' called Mastersystem with members of Frabbit, Minor Victories and Editors seems to be out to today as well. Just popped up on Spotify.

Busiest day of the year so far for new releases probably.

Eels appear to have been on a bit of a downward trajectory over the last couple of albums, hopefully the new one is an improvement

I seem to have listened to a lot of new stuff this weekend, mostly good...

Daniel Avery - it's been a good year for electronica and this is a fine addition. Unsettling at times, beautiful at times.
Sarah Shook & the Disarmers - female fronted Americana which rollicks along rather nicely. @Mick Dundee you might like this.
Eels - something of a return to form. Warm and comforting. I still can't take them completely seriously since I saw them at End of the Road and my friends' then 3 year old daughter started doing the moves from 'The Wheels on the Bus' to 'Mr E's Beautiful Blues'.
Goat Girl - Very good! Rough Trade signed politicised indie. 19 tracks in 40 minutes.
Hinds - more of the same from them on album 2. Lo-fi fun C86ish guitar jangle. Entertaining!
Mind Over Mirrors - probably my favourite album of the week. Droney electronica meets warm folk meets ambience. Lovely and quite exciting!
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - in which they move further into Prince-like territory. Well worth a listen!
Mien - thanks to @mad cyril for pointing this out. Psych rock. Not entirely dissimilar to The Black Angels (due to the vocals) but with more keys.
Wye Oak - they continue to move further away from their indie-folk origins. Reminds me a bit of St Vincent.
Mastersystem - thanks to @MarcoG for pointing this out. Sounds very much like a rockier Frightened Rabbit, which, again, is not entirely surprising, given the vocalist.
