Are we gonna protest yet?

If players are trying then they deserve applause even if they lose.

If they weren't trying then that's different, but this batch genuinely look like they're trying, they just aren't good enough to win most of the time. That's not their fault so in my opinion they shouldn't be lambasted for it.

Each to their own I guess marra

There's certainly something wrong with them mind. Saw it on Twitter so not 100% sure of it's accuracy but apparently Millwall came 6th in league one, spent less than us, and are vastly outperforming us. Is that all down to the manager and coaches or do some of the players need to look at themselves? In Jones, O'Shea, Cattermole and Oviedo we've got hundreds of games and year upon year of premier league experience. McGeady has top flight experience, Mine had a spell of looking good in the top flight, hell even McManaman had a bit of experience there. Are all these players really so poor that they should be level on points with Burton Albion?

If someone is put off buying a club because a handful of fans have protested after two relegations in a row, the worst home form (presumably) in the club's history, a season that guarantees that next season will be, at best, the joint lowest the club has ever finished and whilst paying fortunes to people who are vastly underperforming then maybe owning a football club isn't for them. We've kept our mouths shut, we've barely displayed any anger, where has it got us?

Now I'm not saying I'm in favour of a protest myself, but I certainly won't criticise anyone who does want to make their feelings known, fair play to them

When have "we" kept our mouths shut?

There's been booing in almost every match for the last 2 years and chants of "you're not fit to wear the shirt" since at least the beginning of this season, probably some last year too amongst the "are you watching Ellis Short" chants.

There's been so much discontent that a new fan group has been set up to put forward the points of view of the fans.

At no stage in our downfall have "we" kept our mouths shut.

I would love to see this season played again with the crowds genuinely not displaying their anger. In my opinion, displaying our anger so frequently has had a detrimental effect on the confidence of many of the players and contributed at least a little towards us being where we are now.

Obviously there are other factors and we can get into the chicken and egg argument about results and abuse, debate freedom of speech etc. as we've done many times before but the simple fact is that as long as there's some abuse being dished out by some fans, we'll never know what could have happened if there had been no abuse.

From the other side, I suppose you could say that as long as there are people who aren't abusive, we'll never know what we could have achieved if everyone were abusive, but how many situations in any walk of life can you honestly say have been improved by displaying anger towards the people trying to do their job? How many people do you know that feel more motivated, more happy to stay at their place of employment, more wanting to push themselves further to the limit when they are receiving regular abuse?

Speaking for myself, I know that in a couple of jobs I've had in the past, when I've been trying my best but failing to be recognised for it and instead get abuse, it has the opposite effect on me; it makes me think "Well, fuck you then, you'll get the bare minimum from me in future! What's the point me busting a gut when all I get is abuse for it anyway? Fuck it, I'm going to look for another job!"

Players are just people.

Every set of fans boo when losing; I don't like it but it's something that's crept in. I remember Leicester getting some boos at one point during their Champions League campaign. Considering how far we've fallen and how incompetent we've been from top to bottom there's been nowt more than a little bit of booing and a few isolated you're not fit to wear the shirt chants. Other clubs, in Britain and abroad, would be rioting. SAFC have had it very easy, most have just stopped going

Even the best players can turn to shit when their confidence is shot to bits. I don't think most of our players are so poor that we should be where we are, but are suffering from lack of confidence and/or motivation due to torrents of abuse.

That said, our goalkeeper situation is a problem in my opinion, and losing our top goalscorer halfway through the season without finding a suitable replacement was another nail in the coffin.

Those two positions aside, I don't think our squad is that bad. Certainly not relegation bad.

Torrents of abuse? Ha'way man. Anyway, the club were very well supported in the early part of the season, the players turned to shit well before the fans started to turn

It's not just a "little bit" of booing and "a few" isolated chants though is it? It's booing every match that we don't win at half-time and full-time, booing every time we concede a goal, groaning at misplaced passes or players losing the ball, personal abuse from individual fans aimed at specific players/managers/Bain/Short and the chanting of YNFTWTS (which I found particularly distasteful at the start of the season when half the team had only just signed for us, hadn't even settled in yet and weren't responsible for our predicament in the slightest).

I disagree. There was an abuse hangover from the previous season at the start of this one. Abuse in the early part of the season was way out of proportion with the position we were in at that time and surely contributed to the lack of confidence/motivation of some of the new arrivals.

Your memory is very different to mine then. I remember being at Sheffield Wednesday which, for me, is when I first got a bit worried. We'd scored early but then let them back in it and really should have lost. At the end of the game there was loads of applause, there were chants of "there's only one Simon Grayson". People were, in many ways, glad to be free of the Premier League, were enjoying seeing us pick up a few points, and the new players were getting a lot of support.

or are we still limp wristed as owt?
The owner, board CEO and players have had an unbelievably easy ride from the fans that still bother to turn up.

And aye, we have something planned
If you have something planned then why not put whatever it is in motion, instead of berating strangers online who have no idea of what it is.

I think the time for protest is long gone, it should have been a couple of years ago. The fans haven't stuck together for the sake of the club, they've wanted to do a wait and see approach which has backfired. Had their been a protest in the Prem when we were struggling every year we might not have been in this situation.

Short was asking for near £180m if reports were to be believed, if his hand was forced much earlier that price would have dropped more than likely. All ifs and buts but what have we achieved by doing nothing other than slip through the divisions? The fans have to bare some responsibility for letting it go on for to long unfortunately. Now it is what it is, hopefully it is sold sooner rather than later but the damage has been done.

Just answer the question ffs

I'm on the OP's side with this. Hope you're going on the pitch.

Gonna be like braveheart mate, might even wear ma kilt and paint ma face

I’m berating fans as a whole for doing nothing.

Worst owner in history
Worst team in history
Lowest ebb in our history soon to be achieved.

I’m protesting yet people are sneering at me for doing so! I think the so called fans in here need to have a reality check! You think the demise will stop next season? Best fans in the country my hairy arse

September 10th... "We're f***ing shit"

September 9th... You're not fit to wear the shirt

August 26th... Theyre not fit to wear the shirt!!!!! "Fans turned bigtime today". What's that, two or three weeks into the season?

Obviously there are a lot of people that are just desperate for us to score goals, pick up points, and when we're in the lead and looking good for it (on those rare occasions) the atmosphere can become electric. You can see it reflected not only in the way the team plays but in the way the opposition plays. When we get on our own players' backs, the opposition gains confidence from it and we suffer.

There are a lot of things that happen in football that the fans have no control over. The one thing we can affect is the atmosphere. If we want our players to be gladiators then we should treat them like gladiators and put fear into the hearts of the opposition with a wall of noise on the side of our players rather than against them. If we aim our abuse at our own team every time out then it's hardly surprising they act like Christians being thrown to the lions.

Just get on with the protest mate and don't worry about the naysayers. You might be surprised how many people join in if you've got something going. The people kicking off on here will be silent as fuck at the match.

Sorry mate that's absolute bollocks. There was a lot of support for the club and Grayson in the summer and at the beginning of the season, and plenty for the players.

And how you can make a moral equivalency between failing millionaire footballers and Christians in the Roman Empire being sent to fight lions in theatres is beyond me. Have a word with yourself mate, that's disgraceful. There's absolutely nothing in common with the two plights.

So what are you doing then?

"Moral equivalency" It's just a simile mate. Analogy. I'm in no way comparing the situations from a moral standpoint.

As for "a lot of support at the beginning of the season", does that mean that not only is my memory of those events failing but also all the people on those three threads I linked in my previous post were all liars?
