He wasn’t. He was a goalkeeper. At high school I played with Gary Walsh, who was Man Utd's goalkeeper for a few seasons. Mind you, it was cricket I played with him - I had no idea that he was a footballer!

Not pros but I played against Carnegie (PE college) second team and our college team got stuffed 18-0.I remember playing at Uni and there was a bloke on the other team who played 8 games for Burnley before getting released. This was when Burnley were one of the weakest teams in the Fourth Division. I thought he couldn't be very good. Jesus, he was light years ahead of anyone else on the pitch.
Still makes me laugh when people look at professionals now and say 'I could do better than that'.

He did say training
Not sure that applied back then. I played with and against loads of lads, in the Russel Foster, who were with clubs. The standard of the Russel Foster back then was very, very high.Bollocks. Mickey never played Russel Foster league as he was already committed to Sunderland and they wouldn’t let him

I also was faster than craig Russell
At which end?Against Proctor. He scored twice, I scored once. We lost 4-2.
At the same time though when you look at some players who make it you have to think how others didn't.I remember playing at Uni and there was a bloke on the other team who played 8 games for Burnley before getting released.
