Sunderland punching above their own weight?

We're in the bottom 3 of the Championship man...

yes I know that's why I think you are punching above your weight getting Coleman in. He would have had other choices, there were premier league clubs on the verge of sacking managers and he could have had one of those jobs. At the very least he could have went to a championship club in the promotion race.
He came to Sunderland instead, you did well to get him.

Look at the clubs Rafa usually goes to, his last 6 clubs before us Real Madrid, Napoli, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Liverpool and Valencia. Look at us compared to those clubs. If he leaves he will not be short of options, for that reason I think we are punching above our weight as well.

Ah I get you I thought you meant by our position

No worries.
I like Coleman, I think he comes across very well in his pre and post match interviews.
I was hoping you would get that Heckingbottom you were after as I don't rate him.

Soz marra but he's on his way down now :*(

That I think would be a entirely different conversation.
From my own point of view I have never expected Ashley to throw in millions of his own money. I would be more than happy for Newcastle to run and operate within it's own means as a business.
I have no objection to Ashley making money from the club as long as he does it with the intention of trying to move the club forward at the same time.
I am looking forward to him selling up should it ever happen but don't blame him for not selling at the current 250 million offer as I think that's and under evaluation.
As Ashley is investing his capital then surely it is up to him as to how much money he “makes”. As at best a stakeholder (ie supporter) you have no say, no opinion and no power.
As I remember he has lent the club £130M (Sheppard’s hidden debt...so much for due diligence)

I find that hard to believe to be honest, If you buy a club for 110 million I fail to see how there could be 130 million in hidden debt that nobody noticed when going through the books. I think more likely his people did due diligence, seen there was 130 million of debt, valued the club at 240 million so paid 110 million and took on the debt. If you have a business and hide 130 million in debt then someone goes to prison.

I agree he owns the club lock stock and barrel and has the right to make what he wants. While as a supporter I have no say and no power I do have the right to an opinion, and the right to voice it and moan my tits of if I want.

You use a great performance by your team as a platform to attack Sunderland. I suggest you are not as big a supporter of your club as you like to appear. A real supporter would be content in revelling in their victory, not preoccupied with posting this crap.
He’s a total berk. There’s some canny mags post on here, he isn’t one of them.

I agree.

The sort of idiot that the ignore function was created for. Of course he’ll just get a new ID and come back again, but that’s how it goes...

Do your homework on the financial position of the club and I vaguely remember Swiss Ramble having it in their review. It was a personal loan from Ashley, if I remember correctly

I agree, the decent ones are OK .... you can spot the thick ones by the totally obvious and witless drivel after a Newcastle win.

The decent ones would say the same things to you in a pub, the idiots wouldn't dare .....
.... which is why they use the internet to hide behind.

Still don't believe it, I just can not see how accountants can go through the books and miss 130 million pounds, more than half of the clubs value. our accountant goes through ours and spots £1.10 taken out for a pint of milk that didn't have a receipt put in for it. How you could hide 130 million without going to prison for it is beyond me.
Just to be clear I'm not doubting that Ashley made that size loan to the club I'm doubting that he didn't know the debt was there when he bought the club.

I suggest that you look at the “trail”...

The personal loan was made after his purchase of the club. You might do well to ask @Grumpy Old Man about it...

Beats me

Not strictly relevant, but I get the point. As to motivation...the libel laws prevent me from saying more...

I'd have to have a look at the accounts before and after Ashely bought you.
As I have asked of you before, it would provide an interesting read.

Firstly as I am obviously interested in the state of my club, but it might also provide pointers to what could have been done earlier and now with Sunderland.

Also, given Ashley’s propensity for the truth it would be interesting to see if there any holes in the “financial security” of my lot...interesting for us both as we may well be, despite it all, heading down the the road financial hell

I don't believe you are, because Ashley has been doing what we should have done, balancing the books on transfers. If he'd done what it looks like the majority of your fans want, you'd be in just as much crap as we are.

Totally agree with this. I live in Fulwell, my allegiance is well known in the local pubs. I have never had any grief at all, but I never shout my mouth off or act the cock.

But you'd happily say ..... "A filthy excuse of a club are Sunderland at present."

Bear in mind that John Hall (as far as I have read) was “only” ever in for £3M and that the rest was debt...

Given that the Revenue are sniffing around and that the MD is being “fingered” for guit I do wonder how financially secure we are and how firewalled both the club and Ashley are.

As much as Swiss Ramble is a good read, it lacks the incisiveness of your analysis.

Completely wrong. Another one trying to rewrite history.

The ramble has lots of pretty pictures, but it's pretty superficial. He rarely looks beyond the profit and loss and the headline debt numbers. If you really want to know what's happening, you need to look at both cash flow and trends over a number of years.

Remind me what year Ashley bought you.
