Films that slipped through the net

Manhunter - probably the most ignored of the Hannibal movies (Brian Cox instead of Hopkins) but for me the best one of the lot.
To Live and Die in LA - brilliant 80s cop action film
Duel - Spielberg's debut film, probably my second favorite of his after Jaws
John Dies at the End - the last Don Coscarelli film - didn't get half the exposure of Bubba Ho Tep but I really enjoyed it
Electra Glide in Blue - Great 70s police film
Punishment Park - 70s faux documentary film

Yes yes yes, great stuff

Good recommendations on here - going to follow some up.

A film I've mentioned before but keep urging people to watch is a thriller set in Stasi run East Germany called 'The Lives of Others'. Disturbing but brilliant.

Just watched this on your recommendation (after Googling the real name - Kajaki). Excellent film.

Felt very proud watching it as loads of men came in wearing berets and badges and a Help for Heroes collector made a fortune.

Duel is a cracking shout. Can't agree about john dies at the end though, I hate saying it but it's a massive let down from the book, which wasn't even that great anyway!

If you like Tom Hardy, you must watch "Locke". It's an acting tour de force, set in one location only, namely the drivers seat of his car. Some of the tension is unbelievable.
Great performance I agree but I absolutely detested Locke, its down there with the worst films i've ever seen. What's the point of putting a radio play on the big screen? Sooo pretentious...

Saw this film years ago, Time After Time... Malcolm McDowell, David Warner... Far fetched story about HG Wells time machine and Jack The Ripper using it to escape Victorian London to 20th Century San Francisco... Sounds crap when I describe it but its actually quite enjoyable.... A sturdy 7.2 on imdb

Sorcerer

1977 film with Roy Scheider about men trying to drive trucks full of nitroglycerin through treacherous jungle to put out a chemical fire

to those interested, the restored version of this Friedkin classic from 1977 is being shown next Tuesday (13th Feb) at 23:20hrs on UK channel Film 4

Back in the day it was said to be the first non-Hollywood type film produced by a Hollywood studio (ironically it ended up being distributed by two of the main studios: Paramount and Universal Studios) ... Roy Scheider in one of his best roles.

That's what I call a bump

I dragged our lass (no) to this when it was shown in London last year, and have the old, not very good DVD that used to be the only thing available, the better Blu Ray that came out a couple of years ago, and got the 40th anniversary edition Blu Ray for Christmas. I think if I changed channel onto that next week she'd stab me with a fork
