Why does the club give out false attendance figures?

Maybe they should change the announcement that they during the second half from, "today's attendance is ...", to "tickets sold today is ..."
The announcement is misleading imo

Total ticket sales. 20000 turn up but you sell 28000 tickets, meaning you have to pay tax on the total sales. it doesn't matter if nobody turns up you still pay tax on the tickets sold, But yes it is strange when we all know that we don't currently get the attendance they say.

Don't know about 8000 but there's lots of people with season tickets that I know often don't bother going.

What happens if they announce 30k attendance, there's some kind of evacuation needed (God forbid) and, following a head count, emergency services have to go back in looking for the 10k who are unaccounted for?

attendances always seem accurate to me based on looking at it by eye and the figure given, and I’ve been eyeing the attendances up since the day the stadium opened. Total myth that they’re not wildly exaggerated.

So you have 20,000 gate but say you have 28,000 for income tax reasons.

As the club is a company, it would be corporation tax as well

Pretty sure Emergency Services would be more interested in trying to get as many out as quickly as possible than keeping track of actual numbers.
