Where are the best places for a weekend away with the Mrs? We'll probably go sometime in March, but I haven't been for years. Is Keswick a decent bet? Somewhere good for walking and close to a nice town is all I'm really after.
Yes. It's canny. Try to avoid the rooms in the newish block next to the lake because they look sideways not at the water. There's a place in Bowness called the McDonald Old England hotel and spa.
Anyone been?
What the fuck is 1783534?Depends what you want. Busy towns with shops, Keswick, Bowness, Ambleside, Windermere. 1783534 and good walking, Ullswater, Patterdale, Glenridding or even Pooley Bridge.
Fair point but not in March. Bowness is good because you can get the boat up and down the lake to Ambleside and Lakeside. Then there's the Windermere town as well. Are people actually suggesting Bowness because Keswick is too busy?
A series of numbers. What the fuck is 1783534?
Just got back from Bowness today, stopped at the Windermere Hydro, just up the hill from the McDonald, really nice. We walked the western shore yesterday around to Wray Castle which was an easy stroll. Our personal favourite is Keswick. Maybe try the Borrowdale Hotel, and walk either side of Derwent Water, ( Catbells or Walla Grag ) End up in Keswick itself for bar meal drinks, then boat or bus back to Borrowdale. There's a place in Bowness called the McDonald Old England hotel and spa.

Cracking pub, can honestly say probably the biggest portion of bar meals I have had. Love the Robinson’s draught XB. Kids get a little spooked by the stuffed animals hanging from the ceiling mind....Windermere. Hole in 't Wall makes it worth visiting for alone.
I'm fairly well travelled and I'd say, of all the pubs around the world I've been in, that's my favourite. Love the atmosphere of the place, especially in winter with the open fire blazing.Cracking pub, can honestly say probably the biggest portion of bar meals I have had. Love the Robinson’s draught XB. You won’t be disappointed. It’s mid refurb and will be all done by the time you go in August. Lovely vantage point overlooking the lake, staff can’t do enough for you and really is spotless. As you are going in August, then the Angel pub is 500 yards down the hill with a really nice beer garden and a really nice spot for a few drinks after a walk. Had a few Shipyards sat outside there yesterday. This is where I'm staying, with it being pet friendly. Good to hear it's nice
